Reporting to the Executive Director, Quality & Strategy, the Director, Medical Staff Services plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of our hospitals\' medical services as well as overseeing daily operations of the Medical Affairs department and developing and implementing of key medical staff initiatives. The Director works closely with clinical and administrative leaders to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care with key accountabilities for supporting effective operations and strategy, sound human resource management practices and performance management, continuous learning and development, positive organizational and team culture, and effective change management and relationship building.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Expert knowledge of health care, hospital systems, medical profession/disciplines and broader public sector management practices;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional practices, procedures and regulations as outlined by Yukon Medical Professions Act and Hospital Act, along with a strong understanding of concepts/principles contained in YHC Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and other medical practice standards, codes, policies, procedures, and best practices;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of recruitment strategies, human resources/employee relations practices, performance management processes, and administration/interpretation of employment and service contracts;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality assurance/improvement principles and practices, risk management processes and considerations;
  • Proficient to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, coaching and negotiation skills (both verbal and written)
  • Inter-mediate to expert quality improvement and change management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, manage and implement evidence-based, people-focused quality assurance and improvement initiatives;
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a highly-dynamic, multi-disciplinary, and team-based environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to leadership and professional development;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the capability of providing leadership to a diverse team and within varying power dynamics/differentials and interacting comfortably with senior leaders; and
  • Demonstrated ability to be politically astute, self-aware and self-managed; and adapt readily to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
The successful candidate should have a Master\'s degree in a health-related field (clinical preferred), a minimum of eight (8) years experience\' preferably in progressively more responsible program related leadership position(s), a minimum five (5) years previously related demonstrated experience and understanding in a healthcare-related discipline, preferably in Medical Affairs or Human Resources. A certificate in hospital or health care services administration and/or management or human resource management. An equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience may be considered. Yukon First Nations 101 (or equivalent) as well as any additional cultural safety related education and current registration with recognized regulatory/professional equivalent organization are desired.
