As a vital part of the Agricultural Operations branch the recently revamped Meat Inspection and Farm Animal Welfare division ensures the safety of locally produced provincially inspected meat products while ensuring farm animals are healthy and properly cared for.
About Our Opportunity
Leading a team of professional inspectors, program officers and veterinarians you will oversee the effective regulatory management Meat, Fur and Animal Welfare Act and their associated regulations. This opportunity allows you to have a positive impact on the safety of meat products consumed in the province and the humane treatment of farm animals.
You will build collaborative partnerships with meat plants, processors, producers, sector associations, other compliance agencies and federal and provincial counterparts.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Agriculture Operations.
Qualifications and Experience
If you have the following skills and competencies, we would like to hear from you:
A university degree in in agriculture, science or veterinary medicine as well as several years of progressive management experience in a similar role or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.
You have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a proven track record of motivating high performing teams and resolving challenging situations. You are able to deliver and develop strategic advice and make operational decisions in relation to the area of responsibility while linking ideas to both internal and external factors. You are also an innovator who generates, promotes, and implements new ideas, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and resolving concerns arising from the resulting changes these ideas would produce.
Experience with compliance and regulatory agencies or livestock fur and meat processing will be considered an asset. Demonstrated experience in change management initiatives will also be considered an asset.
