Empire Life is looking to hire a Director, Marketing Compliance to join our Legal & Compliance team!

The Director, Marketing Compliance leads the Marketing Compliance team and oversees the provision of compliance advice and services in a wide variety of subject areas, with a focus on providing guidance on advertising and marketing campaigns and new product introductions, including reviewing advertising materials and products for compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry guidelines. The incumbent is guided by defined goals and objectives and works under the general supervision of the Vice-President & Chief Compliance Officer in support of all business units.

What you'll be working on

Oversee a broad range of compliance issues to proactively manage the Company's regulatory compliance and reputational risk, including oversight of regulatory compliance matters and marketing reviews for Empire Life and its wholly-owned mutual fund portfolio manager, Empire Life Investments Inc., Provide senior leadership with advice on compliance issues Liaise with regulators and industry associations on compliance matters to protect the Company's interest and reputation Oversee compliance-related regulatory reporting Oversee Marketing Compliance team employees by monitoring the manner, quality and timeliness of service delivery Oversee the administration of the Company compliance training delivery program Provide training to marketing on regulatory topics of substantive relevance to the marketing teams Provide clear direction and leadership to the Marketing Compliance team, and to business units, through the development and implementation of compliance standards and measures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry practice Proactively engage with business unit partners, external stakeholders and regulators on compliance matters to advance the company's interests Oversee the monitoring and reporting of the division on key benchmarks and metrics for all areas of responsibility Provide ongoing advice on a wide variety of compliance matters, to assist with business unit understanding, management and mitigation of compliance risks Remain current with relevant laws and regulations in a wide variety of subject areas Make decisions based on good financial service and business practices, accepted industry standards and practices and standards established by industry regulatory bodies Provide leadership support to the department for strategic planning and plan implementation Participate in corporate strategic planning process as member of the Senior Management Team Coach and mentor team members; identify employee training and development needs; participate in the hiring and employment processes for team members; set employee goals and objectives, manage employee performance

What we're looking for you to have

5+ years financial services industry work experience, with extensive exposure to compliance, regulatory and legal matters Strong understanding of the regulatory environment and day-to-day operations of a life insurance company Managerial and leadership experience Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset University degree in a related discipline Law degree, lawyer, CPA or similar professional qualifications would be an asset Tact, diplomacy and the ability to handle confidential information Well developed conflict resolution and team facilitation skills Ability to think logically, analyze and solve problems Attention to detail/accuracy Familiarity with digital marketing platforms and technologies, including social media advertising and influencer marketing. Well-developed team building, coaching and mentoring skills Well-developed communication, negotiation, persuasion and presentation skills If you are applying for a position which is open to applicants across Canada, unless otherwise indicated in the position, language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
