What's the opportunity?




As a Director, ML and Data Engineering, you will be responsible for guiding a team of engineers to build and manage data platforms and pipelines for Data Science with appropriate data governance and security. You will work with data scientists and peer data engineers to actively solve business problems and delivering value using agile methodology. You will work with technical and business stakeholders to build and maintain an optimized and scalable data pipeline and democratize data. You will participate in the architecture review and approval process. You will be also responsible for working closely with data scientists in the area of data ingestion and feature engineering, establishing coding best practices, maintaining and managing technical documentation and incident triaging and resolution.


We are seeking an ML / Data Engineering leader to drive the development of ML / Data engineering solutions on RBC's Enterprise Data and AI on-prem platform (Borealis AI Farm), that meet the strategic ML / data objectives of the Chief Data Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of data products, as well as lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented engineers. This role requires an understanding of data controls, risk assessments, governance and regulatory requirements.

Your responsibilities include:




This role will encompass an end-to-end Data Integration view from data sourcing, lineage, transformation, and storage to support complex advanced analytics and AI, and require extensive collaboration with Business architecture, System architecture, Business SME and Data Stewards.

Be a hands-on leader, and provide technical leadership & mentorship to fellow technical staff Work with the Business SMEs and Platform leads to understand and determine best mix of development and technical solutions to meet business requirements and project objectives Help drive the MLOps strategy for the team, moving towards a scalable infrastructure by understanding and managing the AI/ML needs across multiple business groups Design modern architectures and end-to-end technology transformation solutions Apply design-thinking and agile mindset in working with various stakeholders to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on solutions that enable end-users to extract insights and value from AI Products Help drive transformation by streamlining and improving engineering processes, technologies and tools. (i.e automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and reliability) Leverage best practices in continuous integration and delivery Explore new capabilities and technologies to drive innovation Integrate data within on-prem platforms and publish curated data products for consumption Participate in Data management requirements and support Data and AI needs of business and business stakeholders

Must Have:



Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., engineering, physics or mathematics) from an accredited university Experience building and leading teams 10+ years of hands-on development experience Experience in data solutions such as Snowflake, Databricks, Hadoop, SQL Extensive experienced in Data Engineering Tech Stack: Python, PySpark, Databricks, Airflow, Kafka, Snowflake, API: Node.JS, Apigee, Portal/analytics solutions: Angular, Security frameworks: LDAP, Kerberos, OAuth 2.0, Vault integration. Experience writing clean and concise codes / scripts using Java, Scala, Python, Angular, SQL (Spark and Databricks-specific SQL is a plus) Experience with Relational and Non-Relational (i.e. Graph database) data solutions Experience with containers & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures, coding best practices

Nice to have:



Automation/DevOps: GitHub Actions, Selenium and similar technologies Familiarity with Business Intelligence Tools (Tableau, ThoughtSpot) Experience with cloud environments Source code control: GIT; Experience working in agile environment.
