Job Summary:




The Director, Logistics and Trucking is responsible for the Logistics and Trucking (L&T) Product across Canada. This individual is accountable for Nippon Express Canada's over the road business capability, services, solutions, and operations. With direct oversight of the L&T operational team supporting the country, this individual is the head of the Road Division, supporting each branch location to achieve its respective targets and the L&T Product overall performance focused on Full Truckload, less than Truckload, domestic intermodal, and Cross Broder Road services. The Director, L&T is accountable for all the different aspects operations and procurement across the country that supports sales, branch offices, and any cross functional support across the other Nippon Express Canada Service offerings/departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:





Lead the strategic execution for logistics and trucking operations functions including cross-border, domestic, FTL, LTL, transload, domestic intermodal movement. Accountable to own the strategic execution and the alignment across the organization for the Road Logistics Product development and achievement of financial budgets. Accountable for the Road Logistics Division's alignment and support of other NX Divisions strategic objectives where applicable. Ensure the effective administrative compliance of the division and respective departments including People Performance Management, Resource Planning, Organizational, HR and Departmental policies and procedures. Ensure adequate departmental resources, staffing, training, and quality of work to meet operational and business needs. Plan, monitor and report on the results of the Division within operational KPI performance, Sales development KPIs and monthly, annual financials. Provide conclusive actions in reaction to the performance of the division's operational KPI performance, sales development, and monthly, annual financials. Maintain professional and proactive communication with all department staff, internal and external customers. Accountable for the division's customer satisfaction customer service, maintain integrity in the operations. Accountable for the division's vendor management, selecting, onboarding, auditing, and ensuring compliance to NX Canada's vendor qualification standards. Accountable for the division to consistently conduct QBRs with major vendor/ carriers. Accountable for the division to consistently conduct QBRs with major customers or contribute to QBRs of major customers with other divisions, Customer Relationship Management team members. Provide direct reports coaching and capability building in line with the divisions and overall organizations strategy execution. Various other duties as may be required.

Qualification and Competencies:



Minimum +10 years of previous experience in the freight forwarding, or road logistics industry. Minimum 5 years' experience in a managerial or leadership position. Strong competence in 3PL Road Logistics, Road load Brokerage Services, dispatch operations and Solutions within the Canadian and Cross Border markets for FTL, Intermodal, LTL. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience in 3PL, load brokering operations or dispatch operations. General knowledge of the freight forwarding. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate the team and collaborate with other departments and divisions. Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, organize and prioritize workload in order to meet numerous deliverable deadlines. Ability to provide quality service for our customers by understanding their needs and requirements. Critical thinking and problem solving. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word. General knowledge of common HR principles.

Education/Certifications:



University degree or College diploma in business commerce and/or combination of CIFFA Diploma, education and experience. TDG certification is an asset.

Location and Job Environment:



Office environment, not subject to noise or significant hazards Some stress related to time sensitive reporting, customer escalation management and customer/vendor negotiations.
