Primary Objective:

Responsible for providing leadership to a national Economic Consulting practice and working with staff within the Economic Consulting team as well as other staff in Altus offices across the country.

Working in partnership with other Directors, to implement strategies and business plans developed by the Management Committee to achieve the business Unit\xe2\x80\x99s strategic goals (market, financial and HR). Provide consulting services to new and existing clients and partner with other business units to explore synergy opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Practice Leadership: Provide leadership to the Land Economics practice, to include project management of economic impact, provincial and municipal policy studies, economic development matters, growth management and municipal finance matters.

Manage the workflow of staff within the Land Economics practice of Economic Consulting and elsewhere in Altus Group. Manage and improve study templates, report styles, procedures and analytical tools to maximize efficiency and accuracy in the business area.

Liaise with the VP to ensure key principles within the discipline of Land Economics are adhered to.

Work with the VP and others in Altus Group to improve the land economics offer to be more scalable and flexible through improved process and technology and to grow the business practice.

Business performance: Provide input during the establishment of the annual budget and strategic planning process. Meet or exceed the established performance goals including client deliverables, financial performance and human resources. Ensure productive and efficient use of all direct reports.

Fiscal responsibility: Provide input during the budget planning process and ensure effective cost control systems are in place. Ensure the team\xe2\x80\x99s actions are consistent with organizational values, strategic plan, policies, practices and procedures.

Client satisfaction, commitment and growth: Provide input for the implementation plans in the local market which increases revenues and profit, by building client satisfaction, commitment and loyalty. Monitoring the performance of quoted delivery time to the client vs. actual delivery time to the client.

Conduct project reviews and lead the assessment of client requirements. Develop strategies to build strong business relationships and play a key role in client presentations.

Client Communication: Maintain and grow client relationships in a manner that leads to contract renewal, referrals and service expansion including up-sells and cross-sells. Maintain ongoing client communication and periodic issue resolution. Approve client invoicing and collection activities.

Marketing & Synergy: Work with Senior Management to develop and implement the marketing and synergy plans as they relate to the practice. Partner with peers across other Business Units to explore opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling additional services. Make recommendations for sponsorships and act as Business Unit representative at functions, when assigned.

Team Leadership: Work cooperatively with peers and teams across the organization to facilitate information sharing, cross selling and expansion of service offerings to clients.

Employee satisfaction / commitment / professional growth: Provide input into HR strategies and practices and implement plans that support the businesses\xe2\x80\x99 overall HR objective to be an \xe2\x80\x9cemployer of choice\xe2\x80\x9d. Ensure employee development and continuous improvement efforts encourage employee satisfaction and retention of key talent. Communicate business direction to the teams and ensure alignment of individual goals to business goals. Ensure equitable distribution of work and the effective utilization of key talent.

Maintain a working environment based on respect, trust and open communication that supports corporate values. Foster a \xe2\x80\x9cservice-oriented\xe2\x80\x9d culture which encourages teamwork, continuous improvement as well as efficiency and effectiveness within all aspects of the operation.

Administration: Ensure client invoices are accurate and issued on a timely basis. Participate in annual goals setting activities to ensure alignment with the business strategy. Accurately complete time sheets on a daily basis ensuring non billable time and recoverable expenses are clearly outlined.

Company Database: Ensure data collected by direct reports in your group is entered accurately into the company database in a timely fashion.

Education & Work Experience Requirements:

University Degree in Economics, Urban planning, Urban Geography, Business or a related discipline

Professional designation in practice field where relevant

Leadership/People Management with 10 years plus of experience

Ability to supervise and manage 1 to 3 consultants, and 2 + analysts.

7 to 10 years of urban economics or real estate market analysis experience.

Proven track record of servicing existing Altus clients.

Technical Competencies Required:

Good knowledge / expertise in urban and real estate economics and/or real estate market consulting

Working knowledge of most or all Altus service offerings.

Good knowledge of urban economics and/or the real estate market in Canada / local area market

Good business acumen
