The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) is responsible for stewarding and operating a relevant, accessible and responsive industry-led trades training and certification system and improving access to and participation in the system for Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians and or other racially visible persons, Person with Disabilities, Newcomers, Women and members of other equity deserving groups.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, as the Director, Industry and Community Engagement, you will lead the development of NSAA\'s external relations strategy, including the management of NSAA Board\'s Industry Sector Committees, planning for building capacity, compliance regime, engagement with equity-deserving communities, and the partnership with Skills and Learning Branches Youth engagement division. You will also be responsible for managing the Supervisor of Compliance, and a team of Senior Engagement Consultants.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Director, Industry and Community Engagement you will be responsible for broad external relations strategies to engage industry, communities and youth. To do this, you will:

  • Create a clearly-defined system with effective policies and procedures, including those that provide for the designation, and revoking the designations of trades; a process whereby industry can recommend specification or removal of compulsory certification.
  • Oversee the monitoring, investigation and enforcement of compliance with the Act, General Regulations, trade regulations and agreements and liaises with the Utility and Review Board regarding appeals of administrative penalties.
  • Lead a team of Senior Engagement Consultants in the systematic engagement of both industry and equity-deserving communities. Take a proactive approach to external engagement across the entire apprenticeship system to identify and support trends, challenges, and opportunities; and to plan for increasing participation in the system in new and existing trades, including increased participation by equity-deserving communities.. This team is the Agency\'s frontline connection to industry and communities across the province.
  • Oversee the administration and management of the four industry sector committees that report to the Board. As well as being responsible for all Trade Advisory Committees.
  • Liaise with Skills and Learning Branch - Youth Division to ensure youth are exposed to skilled trades as a viable career option.
Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this leadership opportunity, you hold a university degree in a related field with substantial leadership experience in industry and/or community engagement (an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered).

You are a recognized leader, a strong and effective communicator, a superior relationship builder, and you possess experience in leading teams. You are committed to open communication, collaboration and consultation with staff, partners and stakeholders and are recognized for your personal and professional credibility, creative problem-solving ability, and in-depth experience leading cross-organizational programs and initiatives.

You must also demonstrate:
  • Several years of successful leadership and relevant work experience at a managerial level.
  • Proven ability to lead communication and/or marketing strategies
  • Strong working knowledge of and relationships with Mi\'kmaq/Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotian, and newcomer communities in Nova Scotia.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building skills, an ability to handle and organize large workloads, and a proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • An aptitude to deal with complex issues, strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy, capacity for decisive action, and the ability to influence.
  • Highly advanced innovation, creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Innovative ways of tackling challenges and opportunities.

Additional Information

This position involves regular meetings throughout Nova Scotia and regular, but occasional, out-of-province travel. The incumbent must be able to travel, including on commercial airlines, and attend meetings in federal offices and in the thirteen Mi\'kmaq communities in Nova Scotia. A valid driver\'s license is required.

This is a TERM employment opportunity with anticipated end date of March 31, 2027. The appointment status (\'term\', \'temporary\' or \'casual\') is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Pay Grade: EC 14

Salary Range: $4,309.95 - $5,387.44 Bi-Weekly
