THE ROLE:



Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the

Director, Health, Safety and Radiation Protection

is responsible for setting the overall strategy and direction for health and safety across the organization. This role provides leadership in creating a culture of safety ownership, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and drives continuous improvement in safety performance.

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, Health Physics, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Certification or advanced training as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), or equivalent credentials under CNSC or other regulatory frameworks, strongly preferred. Senior leadership experience in health and safety, preferably in mining, nuclear, or other high-risk industries. In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, including occupational health and radiation safety. Demonstrated ability to lead organizational culture change and embed a strong safety culture. Strong background in risk management, compliance systems, and emergency preparedness. Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:



Develop and execute the organization's health, safety, and radiation protection (HSR) strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals. Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and Board of Directors on safety risks, opportunities, and emerging issues. Champion a safety-first culture that prioritizes accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. Provide regular updates to the executive team and Board on safety performance and priorities. Oversee compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations, including radiation protection and occupational health requirements. Drive employee and contractor engagement in safety programs through leadership, communication, and recognition initiatives. Oversee training and development programs that build safety capability at all levels. Establish and maintain Healthy and Safety policies, systems, and standards across all operations. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, performance metrics, and regulatory submissions. Lead enterprise-wide safety risk assessments and mitigation strategies. Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Monitor and benchmark safety performance against industry standards Provide oversight of the organization's radiation protection program, ensuring compliance with CNSC and other regulatory standards. Implement and maintain radiation monitoring programs for employees, contractors, and the environment. Ensure effective tracking, analysis, and reporting of exposure data to support worker safety and regulatory obligations. Promote best practices in radiation safety training, monitoring, and emergency preparedness. Lead the organization's emergency response and crisis management programs. Act as the senior safety spokesperson in the event of significant incidents or crises.
