Reporting to the Vice President, Head of Communications, Manulife Investment Management, the Director, Head of Wealth Communications will be responsible for building and driving the communications strategy to support the goals and objectives of our fast-growing wealth business at Manulife Investment Management. The Director will be responsible for developing strategies that articulate the strategic objectives of the business to our community of advisors and employees, with the aim of building partner engagement and pride in the wealth business. The Director will also design and supervise external communications initiatives, with the aim of protecting and enhancing our reputation with the media and other external audiences. In the execution of your responsibilities, you will support the Head of Wealth and Asset Management, Canada, Manulife Investment Management. You will be a member of a high-demand, impactful team, that values trust, visibility, and collaboration. The Director will be a member of Manulife\xe2\x80\x99s Global Communications team, consisting of internal and external practitioners.

The Global Communications team is responsible for building and driving critical communications plans that support Manulife\'s business goals, protecting and improving our trusted reputation, profile our company as an extraordinary place to work and drive aligned communications. We build integrated communications plans and incorporate a wide variety of internal, external, social and executive communications channels for optimal delivery of key messages. We focus on storytelling to bring our mission to life and support our values and strategic priorities in everything we build. The Director, Wealth Communications, works closely with Internal, Media Relations, Segment and Thought Leadership communications counterparts to drive initiatives forward and ensure continuous improvement of our work.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide critical communication counsel on a range of sophisticated topics and pivotal initiatives, including advisor and employee communications, transformation and change initiatives, and reputation management.
  • Work closely with the Manulife Investment Management\xe2\x80\x99s Canada Leadership Team and Marketing partners to develop a communications program that will promote the value proposition and strategic vision of the wealth business; this plan will strengthen culture, deepen the engagement and experience for advisors and employees, attract and retain top talent, and energize our teams to focus on our growth-led priorities.
  • Develop messaging to drive the mission and purpose of our wealth business and Manulife Investment Management.
  • Develop integrated communications plans, lead key communications aspects of critical initiatives, change programs, product launches and corporate developments, including preparing and supporting the development of leadership communications, news releases, briefing documents, talking points, presentations, social media posts, and coordinating other plans and resources to drive alignment across Global Communications teams.
  • Announce strategic business developments to the media and other partners, by developing communications plans, media materials, talking points and completing communications.
  • Proactively lead an earned media and public relations strategy to support our brand positioning. Drive PR campaigns that support our corporate narrative and brand initiatives.
  • Anticipate and lead reputational issues and crisis communications with our internal partners and external audiences. Proactively develop communications strategies to mitigate issues that may threaten or damage our reputation.
  • Support broader enterprise-wide communications initiatives as needed.
Experience & Education; Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience, with experience in a public relations role in a complex, matrixed, global financial services organization.
  • Expert-level written and verbal communication skills and confidence interacting across all levels of an organization, including individual contributors and senior leaders.
  • Validated financial competence and proven understanding of the wealth management &/or asset management industry. Experience in wealth is highly desirable.
  • Experience interacting with reporters, journalists, and producers.
  • Experience supporting senior level executives in a communications role.
  • Experience working with multiple internal partners in a highly regulated environment.
  • Able to anticipate issues, think proactively to resolve possible risks.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to interpret instruction for effective delivery while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Willingness to roll your sleeves up and drive tactical execution, while leading implementation of global communications strategies to support our business objectives.
  • Experience in reputation and issues management is an asset.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $100,500.00 CAD - $180,900.00 CAD
