Purpose:
Director, Global Automotive Credit, contributes to the sound asset growth and profits of Scotiabank by ensuring the assigned portfolio of commercial and corporate loans is maintained in sound condition and is within the Bank\'s current credit policy, and for the commercial portfolio ensuring the supporting documentation provides adequate credit protection.

Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to a VP while operating in a team-based environment, dealing directly with senior management and Banking counterparts, and exposed to significant and varied deal flow for Canadian Commercial Automotive Finance, Corporate Automotive and Asset Based Lending portfolios.
  • Given a diverse range of risks in the portfolio and regular interaction with a variety of internal contacts, you will benefit from an environment which fosters continuous learning and development and from an opportunity to make a positive contribution to the Bank as a credit officer and people manager.
  • Responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance of a designated portfolio of complex loans at an acceptable level of risk, by exercising sound credit judgment in approving and recommending applications, monitoring credit quality, conditions, and collection activity, thereby ensuring loan losses are minimized.
  • The position demands a sophisticated level and strong working knowledge of risk management and given the nature of the portfolio, prior Commercial and/or Corporate Credit and/or Banking experience will be an asset.
  • Provide timely and accurate adjudication of credit requests within limits within the framework of the Credit Policy and Corporate Credit Administration Handbook. Lead and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Create an environment in which team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\'s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Build a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates team by fostering an inclusive work environment and use a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Requirements:
  • MBA, CMA, CFA or CA designation preferred combined with minimum 4 years of progressive credit risk / related equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Bank\'s lending policies, procedures, and practices.
  • The incumbent must possess innovative problem solving skills as well as the seasoning to understand the full range of products and risk.
  • There is no control over incoming workflow / workload and the Director must be able to prioritize, co-ordinate and act decisively.
  • Working knowledge of banking, commercial and bankruptcy law and related regulations in the common law and civil code jurisdictions in various Canadian and International locations required.
  • Sound working knowledge of the accounting and regulatory environments for the various specialized industries in which the Bank\'s customers operate.
  • Solid grasp of credit and the structures and protections required for complex credits such as highly leveraged acquisition credits, project credits etc.
  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to develop and interpret metrics required to monitor the performance of the Commercial credit process
