Look no further: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to oversee the geotechnical engineering activities under the civil division of the Project Management Office. Please note that the candidate may be based in one of our 4 offices: Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto or Quebec City.

The role





The Director, Geotechnical Engineering plays a crucial role in the planning, design, and construction of civil infrastructures for the Alto project. They are responsible for overseeing all geotechnical aspects related to these facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geotechnical engineering, exceptional leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing and delivering successful projects.

The responsibilities





Provide leadership and strategic direction for geotechnical engineering activities related to the project, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Provide technical support and guidance to the Private Development Partner on geotechnical issues and solutions. Oversee and manage geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, soil testing, and geological mapping to assess ground conditions for construction, providing critical insights for the planning and design phases of the project. Conduct risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies related to geotechnical aspects, such as foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement. Review geotechnical designs, including foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, and embankments, ensuring compliance with project requirements and safety standards. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as civil, structural, and environmental engineering and with interface coordinators, to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project design and construction. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards for geotechnical engineering practices, environmental protection, safety and security. Manage budgets and schedules for geotechnical engineering activities, including resource allocation, cost estimation, and progress monitoring. Provide expertise on soil mechanics, foundation design, and ground stability to support project planning and construction. Implement quality assurance measures for geotechnical investigations, designs, and construction activities to maintain high standards of engineering excellence. Collaborate with the Private Development Partner, government agencies, community stakeholders, and external partners to address geotechnical concerns, resolve issues, and foster positive relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

The requirements





Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred). Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification (Ordre des Ingenieurs du Quebec is a plus). Minimum 10 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on linear project construction (high speed railways is a plus). Excellent leadership abilities and proven track record of successfully leading large-scale infrastructure projects from conception to completion. Strong knowledge of engineering principles, design software, construction methods, and industry best practices. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Being fluent in both Canadian official languages is desirable. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and environmental considerations for infrastructure projects
