Job Summary:

Ontario Tech is seeking a Director, Engagement Services and Alumni Relations to support its important and ambitious fundraising and engagement efforts. A young, accomplished STEM university, Ontario Tech is growing, with 11,000 students, 26,000 alumni and research income that has doubled in size to more than $25M since 2018. This position directs, manages and implement strategies with its engagement and alumni relations team to support campaign and alumni engagement objectives.

Nature of work:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Advancement and a member of Advancement's leadership team, this position will strategize and implement programs to increase community and alumni engagement, strengthen the donor pipeline and provide effective and efficient advancement services that contribute to campaign and fundraising success. The Director will also oversee communications and marketing, stewardship and donor relations. The incumbent will be a creative and strategic individual who is organized, detail-oriented and can adapt well to changing environments. We are currently working in a hybrid capacity, 1-2 days a week in office.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

1. Fundraising and Community Development

  • Develop and recommend strategic plans to grow the donor base through new or enhanced market development, community development initiatives and direct response marketing programs.
  • Regularly evaluate all activities to ensure optimal results and use of resources.
  • Implement plans, including the coordination, communication and execution of programs. Ensure targets and measures in place to allow meaningful evaluation.
  • Oversee a complex communications schedule and ensure timely, results-focused production of campaign and communication pieces across platforms and mediums.
  • Collaborate with relevant university faculty and staff to deliver effective events related to fundraising, cultivation, stewardship and alumni activities and create compelling corporate communications and marketing materials related to campaign and advancement.
2. Leadership and Management
  • Manage and mentor team members responsible for day-to-day operations, specifically for community development, donor stewardship, alumni engagement, fundraising programs and annual giving.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and recognition to volunteers, including those in the Alumni Association and community fundraising groups.
  • Work with Advancement leadership to build the culture of philanthropy and engage colleagues across the university to support internal and external fundraising strategies, as well as alumni engagement efforts.
Required Skills:
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and networking skills with proven project management and management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to convey complex information to a variety of stakeholders across multiple formats; able to create compelling stories that motivate and inspire donors.
  • Proven community development experience and relationship management skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office software applications, data segmentation and client/donor relations management software.
Required Education:
  • Completion of a University Program consisting of Four Academic Years or Equivalent.
  • A degree in business, marketing, management, communications or related discipline or equivalent education and proven relevant experience.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required
Required Experience:
  • Five or more years in a fundraising and alumni environment; post-secondary preferred.
