BURNCO has an incredible opportunity for a Director, Data & Analytics to based out of our corporate headquarters in Calgary, Alberta or one of our regional offices in Irving, Texas or Henderson, Colorado. As our new Director, Data & Analytics you will be responsible for all decisions related to data and analytics aligned with the vision, roadmap, and delivery of data projects. The role is crucial as data is at the heart of BURNCO. The position requires helping leaders make the right strategic decisions, leverage data to Operations employees in their day-to-day tasks as well with as customers. You will have the opportunity to make a significant organizational impact on our decision making processes.

The Director, Data & Analytics will be responsible for leading a diverse and best in class team with a passion for data and the value information brings to business when skillfully applied, interacting with IT leaders as well as all functional leaders, up to and including the C-suite. You will be accountable for developing and implementing an all-encompassing strategy and multi-year plan for data. Additional responsibilities include multi-year data management and governance, business intelligence (BI) reports, and advanced analytics capabilities. You will work with and challenge the status quo to drive decisions and insights. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer & VP Transformation, you will lead and directly supervise a team of 4 to 5 non-unionized employees as well as indirectly supervise a number of independent consultants.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Data and Analytics Strategy & Delivery - 60%

  • Develop and drive cross-functional data and analytics strategy across BURNCO
  • Shape vision for data governance, BI, analytics, and insight development
  • Develop and implement long-term organizational engagement roadmaps and strategies
  • Work with cross-functional partners to construct and manage a pipeline of opportunities to drive business value
  • Drive forward-looking functions and solutions necessary to deliver the analysis and insights required for evolving business needs
  • Oversee the planning, delivery, and deployment of solutions across a variety of large-scale programs including data platforms and management, reporting, BI and advanced analytics
  • Implement data governance, management, and ownership frameworks to create and maintain data quality
Staff and Change Management - 15%
  • Build, direct and develop a best-in-class team
  • Institutionalize awareness and understanding, championing a data-driven organization
  • Facilitate strategic change management initiatives required to drive self-service adoption of BI and analytics capabilities
  • Drive the strategic direction of the functional area and achieve the IT strategic plan
Collaboration, Operations and Budget - 25%
  • Oversee close coordination with all other IT groups and external partners, to ensure well integrated BI and analytics solutions that adhere to all applicable standards, policies, and security protocols
  • Establish the annual operating and capital budget for all BI and analytics applications, partner work, licensing, team members and other associated costs
REALITY OF THE JOB

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE FROM YOU

Experience

Data and Analytics
  • Minimum 15 years of overall work experience
  • Minimum 8 years demonstrating leadership qualities or overseeing deliverables
  • Experience in business or customer-based data and analytics related roles
  • Experience in building organizational capabilities including staff, tools, and process
  • Experience driving cross-functional collaboration and transformation in a large corporate environment
  • Experience in building and leading high performing teams
  • Experience in BI, Data Lake Management, Data Hubs, etc.*
  • Experience in the construction materials/ concrete/ aggregate industry*
*Any experience with these above would be considered an asset

Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Master's Degree in related fields*

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Understanding of Data Quality Management, BI frameworks, and tools
  • Knowledge of advanced Analytics and Intelligence tools and methods with both structured and unstructured data such as Predictive Modeling, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning
