What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Be Doing

CIBC Innovation Banking provides strategic advice and funding to North American innovation clients at each stage of their business cycle, from start up to IPO and beyond.

As a Director, Credit Solutions you will be responsible for all aspects of underwriting, managing and reporting on client accounts. Your role will include regular monitoring of a portfolio of Innovation Banking loan accounts to ensure compliance with all agreed terms, analyzing due diligence results to validate lending eligibility, preparing credit applications and other credit correspondence, analyzing borrowers\xe2\x80\x99 financial condition and account status, actively assisting with the negotiating of legal documentation. You will also maintain ongoing relationships with an assigned portfolio of accounts. You will work closely with the originations team to develop your skills for a career path in business development.

How You\xe2\x80\x99ll Succeed

  • Client First \xe2\x80\x93 Proactively assess your clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs and propose solutions to deliver to meet those needs. Provide continued partnership and support to your clients through understanding their goals and objectives. Appropriately address borrowers\xe2\x80\x99 requests in a timely manner and ensure that any related credit applications are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Credit Management \xe2\x80\x93 Work with the originations team to prepare strong financing proposals (structuring terms and conditions including security, covenants and pricing) that properly reflect and compensate CIBC for assessed risk. Assist in preparing draft recommendations on credit submissions and investment proposals to present to senior management. Assist with comprehensive due diligence on all transactions, including preparing credit memoranda and other credit correspondence in a well thought out, thorough and efficient manner. Work with the originations team throughout the underwriting process for new transactions, complete credit correspondence, review documentation, set up reporting, etc.
  • Portfolio Management \xe2\x80\x93 Manage a portfolio of loan accounts while ensuring reporting requirements are met, financial covenant tests are completed, and comprehensive credit reviews are prepared and submitted to the risk group. Approve loan advances based on appropriate review and compliance of documents submitted by borrowers.
  • Management Reporting \xe2\x80\x93 Provide management with information on accounts, proactively report on problems or issues, complete reviews and present analysis on borrowers\xe2\x80\x99 financial condition.
  • Coaching \xe2\x80\x93 Coach and mentor more junior members of the Credit Solutions team
Who You Are
  • You demonstrate experience in commercial lending or adjudication and, strong knowledge of marketplace and loan structuring. This is experience may have been gained through a minimum of 6 years working in technology lending, venture capital, and/or commercial or corporate banking.
  • You give meaning to financial data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You have a good understanding of corporate finance and ability to evaluate and understand complex capital structures.
  • Education You\'ve Completed. You have a Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Technology or related field. Advanced business degree or professional designation (MBA/CFA/CA/CGA/CMA) or equivalent work experience would be an asset.
