Job Summary

The Director, Corporate Communications will be responsible for overseeing and leading all external, internal and executive communications to support RBCx (tech banking & RBCs portfolio of tech companies) and RBC Origins (the banks Indigenous strategy & banking team).
Leading a team of skilled communicators, the Director will be responsible for supporting these two business segments within RBCs Commercial Banking portfolio by developing and managing strategic PR, issues management and internal communication strategies to build and protect RBCs brand profile, credibility and relevance with key stakeholders for each business. The candidate will work with senior executives and key business partners to provide day-to-day counsel and oversee the execution of leadership & employee communications and PR campaigns for RBCx and RBC Origins.
We are looking for a strategic and creative storyteller with exceptional writing skills, strong media relationships and experience leading executive communications in a complex, matrix organization.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications, Commercial Banking, the successful candidate will work closely with key business and functional partners within RBCx, RBC Origins and across the broader organization. The candidate will also work with external agency vendors and consultants to support select business priorities.
In additional to exceptional technical skills and advanced communications experience, were looking for a curious, creative and proactive self-starter who can adapt to the needs of two highly nuanced and dynamic sectors, advise senior leaders, and navigate complex stakeholder relationships.
What will you do?

  • Provide strategic internal and external communications counsel to the Head of RBCx, Head of RBC Origins and their respective Senior Management Team members on day-to-day business and issues-related matters.
  • Lead the development and oversee the teams execution of strategic internal and external communication strategies to support RBCx and RBC Origins business priorities
  • Identify and lead opportunities to the profile of the Head of RBCx and Head of RBC Origins internally and externally. This includes (but is not limited to) supporting: executive media tours, LinkedIn thought leadership development, speech writing, internal leadership memos and leader videos.
  • Oversee and manage proactive and reactive media relations, change management communications and reputational matters related to each business
  • Provide direct reports with coaching, feedback and development opportunities that set them up for success and enable their professional growth.
  • Manage external PR agency and vendor relationships and budgets to deliver on priority communication and business goals
  • Partner fluidly with RBCs Brand, Marketing & Corporate Communications colleagues in amplifying key enterprise themes and initiatives within the business and vice versa.
  • Provide day-to-day communications counsel to business and functional partners to drive adoption of communications best practices & alignment with business priorities.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
  • Undergraduate degree/postgraduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field
  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • Experience providing strategic communications advice to senior business leaders and subject matter experts
  • Ability to lead teams and support talent development and day-to-day coaching
  • Strong creative and business writing, media relations and change management communication experience
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and diverse network of stakeholders in a matrixed organization
  • Exceptional project management skills, emotional intelligence and attention to detail
Nice-to-have:
  • French bilingualism is a strong asset
  • A fast learner with a natural curiosity, passion and keen eye for identifying PR and other storytelling opportunities
  • PR agency & U.S. media experience is a strong asset
  • Equal measure of collaborative spirit to operate as part of highly integrated team, while also being able to self-manage and work independently to deliver on day-to-day priorities
