About Our Opportunity

The Director in the Community Engagement Unit works with a diverse group of partners to oversee and coordinate and understand communities from an asset and cultural lens throughout the province. We are seeking a champion of equity, diversity, inclusion and access (EDIA) with a deep understanding of community capacity building.

The Director understands community development principles, has positive working relationships with community builders across the sectors, and leads the regional offices\' team in working horizontally across the division and department (project, policy, administrative, strategy) on multiple initiatives connected to departmental and government priorities.

The Director works with communities to implement plans and strategies and provides advice and recommendations to senior leadership and government officials. You are a key member of the CCTH Leadership team, helping to identify community assets, partnerships and opportunities in areas that advance the vision and mandate of the government, and supporting your staff in regions to do the same.

As the Director you play an important role in navigating and connecting the aspirations and issues of diverse communities and regional partners to the services of government.

Primary Accountabilities

Core services of the Director Engagement include:

  • capacity building
  • facilitation
  • grant management
  • knowledge and information dissemination
  • building strong alliances
  • leading and contributing to provincial government sectorial initiatives; and
  • support for policy and program development.
In addition, the Director provides mentorship and support to non-government contract positions residing in the 6 regional offices.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role your degree in a related field of study plus a minimum of 5 years leadership and management experience, with several years of experience at the senior level.

In addition, you also posses the following:
  • Experience working with and in diverse communities, particularly racialized communities including Indigenous and African Nova Scotian communities.
  • Experience providing direction, input and advice on the landscape, assets and priorities of communities with regards to physical activity, inclusion, sport and recreation programs and policy, community infrastructure, resources and scope
  • Experience developing and delivering reports and providing accountability mechanisms to ensure the requirements and expectations of the business are being met
  • Experience leading and monitoring compliance of programs (interpreting policies and legislation);
  • Experience in community development for capacity building at a community level through policy, planning, consultation for the development of an effective delivery system; and
  • Experience providing leadership to the development of appropriate research, evaluation and surveillance activities to monitor program effectiveness by aligning provincial and local policies and practices.
You demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and have a proven track record of motivating high-performance teams. Your leadership skills use a streamlined approach to service delivery working with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders to develop, implement and monitor strategies and strategic priorities.

You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to establish productive relationships with senior representatives of non-governmental and governmental organizations (both internally and externally). You represent the Department on intra-department committees, cross government collaborations, Provincial/Territorial groups, project teams, and at conferences and meetings.

Qualifications and Experience Cont.

You will work to ensure the effective management of human and financial resources, promote a diverse and a healthy workplace, demonstrate leadership competencies that promote teamwork and individual development, monitor expenditures, accurately forecast budget requirements for the fiscal year, and adhere to procurement and grant management guidelines.

In this role you will participate as a member of the CSR\'s Leadership Team in the annual planning process ensuring the integration of division efforts with the department\'s overall strategic directions.

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Decisiveness, Strategic Orientation, Developing Others, Team Leadership, Self-Awareness and Personal Impact, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: EC 13

Salary Range: $3,561.95 - $4,897.66 Bi-Weekly
