The C&E PMO team is a newly created team within the Climate Change & Environmental Impact team. This team will have ownership of the C&E portfolio management office to ensure the C&E team is operating optimally and connecting strategically through the enterprise. As part of that mandate, the team will standardize Climate portfolio governance processes, develop knowledge management framework and repository for Climate resources, methodologies, tools, and policies. Additionally, and critical to the team\xe2\x80\x99s success, is to embed continuous improvement and performance excellence expertise in providing project related services to define the first, bottoms up decarbonization roadmap for each BG and function, which is essential to establishing a Climate Transition Plan (CTP \xe2\x80\x93 an annual, living document for external publishing/OSFI requirement).

The successful candidate has demonstrated the ability to lead, develop and support both project managers and senior business leaders achieve large and complex initiatives within a program or portfolio accountability. This role will lead C&E\xe2\x80\x99s development of an Enterprise and BGs/Functions climate transition plans, embed governance, and support the Enterprise and BGs/Functions in driving accountability for their portfolio performance. To be successful you must be skilled at program / stakeholder/ change management and have significant expertise on application of continuous improvement / performance excellence methods and tools.

What will you do:

The C&E Director role is an innovative, organized and highly skilled project professional and leader with significant hands-on experience delivering large and complex initiatives driving business value and deploying a continuous improvement mindset, while meeting strategic business goals. This role reports directly to the AVP, C&E PMO, Governance, and Data.

Shape, plan, manage and work with the Enterprise and BGs/Functions in implementing Climate Transition Plans and C&E operational initiatives while ensuring alignment with business strategies.

Integrate continuous improvement and performance excellence disciplines, methods, and tools; devise workshop approaches, develop content and facilitate work sessions to drive desired business outcomes.

Develop strategic roadmaps for C&E portfolio, including key deliverables, timelines, and accountabilities to ensure visibility and understanding of the portfolio of work and impacts to the Enterprise, BGs/Functions, and Sustainability teams.

Oversee planning, resources, executing, tracking and reporting on Climate Transition Plans and projects within the C&E portfolio; develop operating standards and tools needed to support this outcome and enable reporting needs.

Work effectively to create and foster relationships with key individuals including Sustainability team leaders, SMEs, Business leaders, practice managers and program sponsors.

Identify, resolve and escalate risks and issues to the appropriate stakeholders.

Communicate effectively with senior and business leaders \xe2\x80\x93 presenting progress, key data points, findings, and relevant recommendations.

Develop and implement appropriate change management strategies.

Develop and enhance project management processes, team performance and client satisfaction.

Provide strategic vision and strong leadership while directing programs.

Effectively drive results through understanding business objectives, identifying strategies to achieve them, and successfully establish ways of working and execute against the C&E portfolio.

What do you need to succeed:

University degree in Business or relevant experience in the field of Continuous Improvement / Program Management / Sustainability

Overall 10 years of professional experience, with 5-7 years of progressive experience in Continuous Improvement and Performance Excellence (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and 5 years of Program Management experience, leading large complex initiatives (e.g., Agile, Scrum)

Excellent people leadership skills with the ability to engage a team of talented employees and lead them to meet and exceed business expectations. Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency and trust across the team.

Demonstrated ability to make recommendations to senior management and influence business decisions based on thorough analysis. Strong facilitation, negotiation and issue resolution skills.

Deep experience with Performance Excellence and Continuous Improvement methods, tool, and applications.

Project Management experience working large and complex projects with multiple work streams.

Ability to lead through influence in a complex and evolving environment and meet challenging timelines and organizational goals. Critical thinker and passion to challenge status quo to problem solve, find new solutions, and drive performance excellence.

Results oriented, ensuring the team is focused on delivering on Objectives and Key Results.

Strong communication and relationship management skills. Ability to foster internal relationships with leaders across Business and Functional Leaders across Canada and US.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
