The Opportunity
Our Coastal GasLink project is seeking a Director, British Columbia Indigenous Relations (Coastal GasLink) to join our team in Vancouver, BC. Reporting to the Project Vice President, Stakeholder Relations (Coastal GasLink), this position is responsible and accountable for providing leadership and setting strategy to build and grow support in Indigenous communities that interact with TC Energy\xe2\x80\x99s projects and operations in British Columbia.

This role will focus on building trust-based relationships with rights holders and maximizing opportunities and benefits that come from the shared interests of Indigenous communities and TC Energy. The Director will also work with the TC Energy Indigenous Relations group to provide governance of the IR Program for development projects in British Columbia. Leading a geographically dispersed team, you will manage communications with government agencies that deal with Indigenous issues and will be the initial point of contact for Indigenous leadership who wish to interface with TC Energy leadership for developments in British Columbia. This position also supports and works closely with leaders of Land, Environment and Government Relations in British Columbia to secure access to land.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

Provide leadership to the Indigenous Relations Engagement team, the Indigenous and Local Contracting & Employment team, as well as the Construction Monitoring and Community Liaison Team, which includes the Construction Work Force Accommodation Advisory program
Maintain and strengthen relationships with the Indigenous Communities across the Coastal GasLink Project corridor and in other project development areas
Lead, mentor and continue to build a high performing team that specializes in building and maintaining relationships through strong interpersonal and communications skills (including subject matter experts, business analysts and professionals to provide timely, financially responsible, coordinated and flexible support to the project and future developments in British Columbia)
Act as key liaison with Indigenous Leaders across the Coastal GasLink Project, and other potential developments in British Columbia
Seek out mutually beneficial relationships among Indigenous Peoples, Coastal GasLink and TC Energy
Develop and execute protocols to ensure early, honest, and timely communication with Indigenous Peoples across British Columbia
Actively participate in industry, Indigenous and government forums to enhance the sharing of best practices and lessons learned, and is viewed as a subject matter expert
Mitigate risks by proactively planning, communicating and preparing for potential threats and provide crisis management support to the company as required
Lead complex negotiations with Indigenous communities as necessary, and in conjunction with TC Energy commercial teams
Provide guidance and direction to internal and outside legal firms supporting IR, including related to agreements
Provide Assurance of Coastal GasLink and TC\'s engagement and commitments with Indigenous community members and leaders, and non-governmental organizations
Overall accountability for the completion of substantive and accurate regulatory filing documentation for Indigenous Relations
Provide corporate guidance in the above areas in a rapidly evolving legal, regulatory and social context in order to deliver sustainable and responsible business results, including timely and effective support and access to land
Develop and monitor budgets and resource allocations
Provide leadership and innovation for the implementation and continuous improvement of the TC Energy Indigenous Relations Strategy and existing Aboriginal Relations policies, the Indigenous Relations Program
Provide corporate guidance with respect to Indigenous Relations in a rapidly evolving legal, regulatory and social context in order to deliver sustainable and responsible business results, including timely and effective support and access to land

Minimum Qualifications

Post-secondary education in a related field
10 years of experience in Stakeholder Engagement, Indigenous, Land, Legal, or Commercial
Knowledge of the Federal and Provincial regulatory processes and consultation guidelines in Canada
Proven people-leadership and development experience
Proven negotiation, facilitation and diplomacy skills

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with UNDRIP

This position requires candidates to:
Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
Have and maintain a valid driver\'s license and provide a driver\'s abstract (record) for review
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 50% of work schedule), including staying overnight away from home base
