Operating as a non-profit society since 1977, Etana provides support services to adults with developmental disabilities. We work with individuals in the city of Red Deer and area, with our office located in Red Deer. Etana continues to grow with respect to the number of individuals supported and personnel and are adaptive with our services to meet the needs of each individual.

Direct Support Worker - Complex Needs

is directly accountable to the Supervisor of Direct Supports Complex Needs to provide specialized support and assistance to individual person(s) who have a development disability, mental health diagnoses, addiction challenges and therefore complex support needs, such as permanent psychosis, schizophrenia, ADHD and high-risk behaviors. The individuals you will support are learning to receive support in how to cope and deal with barriers in their mental health. Your skills must include a proven ability to work with mental health concerns, self-harming behaviors, and high-risk tendencies. You will be required to remain calm in emotionally charged situations. Using a foundation of trauma-informed care, holistic approaches, and a positive attitude, you will use your highly developed behavioral intervention skills to provide intense support to implement intervention plans that will facilitate the optimal functioning of individuals with complex support needs.

Successful candidates are expected to provide support across multiple environments which will promote personal growth, and independence and increase social inclusion and to complete such duties ensuring that services provided are of the maximum possible benefit to the individual(s) and that services are operated in accordance with standards as set down by Etana, Disability Services and CARF Accreditation Standards.

HOURS OF WORK

Monday to Friday 1 PM to 9 PM

There may be some variation in this schedule required from time to time as dictated by the individuals needs and operational requirements.

This is a permanent fulltime position with excellent benefits and paid sick days

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Two years' experience working with complex needs individuals. Experience working with individuals with FASD, addictions, trauma, and mental health issues. Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Check. Emergency First Aid /CPR certification Class 5 driver's license and reliable vehicle

Medication Administration Trauma Informed Care Harm reduction Abuse Protocol / Protection of Persons in Care Act Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) every 2 years Leadership & Advisory Council - Rights, Roles & Responsibilities Food Safe Maintain skills in computing and communication technology as chosen and utilized by Etana Social Role Valorization Training in support approaches for individuals with FASD is an asset
