CORE Homes Durham supports Transitional Aged Youth and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, Complex Special Needs and a range of Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Due to our unique and purpose-built environment we support individuals who may be hard to place in most community support settings.*

Our

High Support

program housing individuals who require staff with an excellent understanding of how to provide support and supervision while managing challenging behaviours all in the context of a prescribed Behaviour Support Plan.



Job Location: High Support - Oshawa ON



Position Status: Full Time hours and Part Time- Predictable and Flexible Schedule - Days, Evenings and occasional Weekends as well as Part Time positions



Hours of work: 8 or 12 hours shifts depending on schedule.



Rate of Pay: Full Time $27 ($3hr Wage Enhancement included) and Part Time $24 ($3hr Wage Enhancement included)



Support and Training: Training and ongoing support provided in:



Registered Behaviour Technician certification



UMAB training and certification



Quality Assurance Measures Training



Medication Handling and Distribution



Positive Behavioural Support Training

About the Role:



DSP's take the lead in the direct care of individuals supported by CHD. Staff are provided the resources, support and guidance to ensure care is of the highest standard and creates meaningful interactions and experiences for staff and those we support. In this role DSP's will:



Follow Behavioral Support Plans, Crisis Support Protocols as documented and directed

.

Provided primary care and supervision to individuals supported by MHH.



Support individuals with activities of daily living as required or directed.



Provide support and coaching to individuals in the areas of social skills, communication and preferred recreational activities.



Contribute solutions to barriers that may impact the quality of life of individuals we support and ensure individuals goals are met.



Administer Medication as required and trained.



Develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals supported their family, and care team.



Qualifications:



Completion of a Human Services Diploma from a Community College and 1 year of related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.



We will consider completion of OSS diploma and 5 years of related experience.



Excellent de-escalation skills and ability to support people with complex behavioural presentations



Solid understanding of Developmental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder and additional complex needs.



Strong interpersonal skills and a caring approach to working with adults with a developmental disability.



Strong verbal and written communication skills.



Experience supporting individuals with daily care requirements, behaviour support plans and individual support plans.



Ability and interest to be a positive member of a dynamic team.



Must have the ability to physically support young adults and adults with complex needs.



Ability to complete and perform Crisis Intervention training (UMAB) - training provided as part of employment.



Understanding of Quality Assurance Measures an asset, training provided.



Valid drivers License with a G.



Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.



Successful completion of a VSS police check.



Medical clearance in accordance with MHHCL policy on pre-employment medicals.
