Overview


Located in Aylmer, this is a designated Children's home for youth with disabilities. Supports include strict adherence to behavior support plans that include prescribed physical activity, dietary plans and any other supports as provided by medical and behavior professionals. All staff will be required to participate actively in a range of physical activities with the youth. Staff will be required to use CPI techniques as needed and will be required to use trauma-informed care approaches to ensure the well-being of the youth. Staff are required to climb stairs and walk on outdoor trails. The youth will need guidance with activities of daily living and personal care. Mental Health education is also an asset.

Qualifications



Minimum of two years' full time current experience (within the last 5 years) working with youth with an developmental/mental health disability, significant behavior challenges, Autism, variety of physical challenges, and diverse medical. Minimum of a Developmental Service Worker Diploma or an equivalent as defined in Community Living Elgin's Recruitment and Staffing Policy. The program must be completed with degree/diploma/certificate.*
Proven experience with people who can present with challenging and risk behaviour. Must be able to perform all components of CPI - including physical intervention components. Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Assurance Measures. Previous working experience with multi-disciplinary teams - including medical, developmental services and clinicians to know and understand behavioral analysis and positive systems approaches - will include extensive data collection. Proven experience establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with highly engaged families and other professional organizations in the planning and delivering of supports while ensuring the choices and rights of people are respected and honoured. Developing community connections to ensure youth supported become active members of their community, neighborhood and society that match the person's interests. Ability to continuously engage and participate in prescribed physical recreation that reflect the individual interests and as part of behavior support plans. Activities will include (but are not limited to): walking long distances at a brisk pace, playing sports, hiking, Yoga, etc. Demonstrated knowledge and working experience utilizing Core Competencies with a particular emphasis in resilience (patience and stamina is a must); Current certification in Standard and/or Emergency First Aid with CPR; Experience in administering and managing medications; Demonstrated experience supporting youth with their personal care; Strong written and verbal communication skills including detailed documentation and recording; Proven ability to present an image of professionalism and have a positive impact when communicating and supporting youth at appointments and in their community; Demonstrated knowledge of Employee responsibilities in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act;
