Position Summary:

Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) provide direct service, supervision, and assistance on a one-to-one basis with individuals supported in various homes where EDSI provides services. Individuals supported have a range of complex developmental disabilities requiring highly attentive and customized support services. DSPs participate, advocate for, and hold all members accountable for the development and implementation of individually directed plans, dreams and goals, including personal/bathing care, daily living activities, and working alongside their team members. They ensure careful and accurate observation of individuals supported, completing written assessments and reports throughout their shifts. DSPs are responsible for supervising individuals' behaviour and ensuring their care, support, safety, and wellness.

Responsibilities:



Assist individuals with their individual support care needs, implementing behaviour support plans while involving them in their plans and decisions. Actively engage with individuals, encouraging their wellness, safety, participation, and goals within their plans. Act as the DSP for assigned individuals, participating in meetings, care reports, and encouraging social and recreational activities. Provide appropriate supports to ensure the health and safety of individuals, supervising and monitoring their behaviour in the home and community. Provide coaching and support in social skills, communication, vocation, education, and leisure activities. Maintain cleanliness, tidiness, and safety of the home and property, encouraging individuals' involvement in household chores. Transport individuals to community outings, appointments, etc., using personal vehicles as per organizational policies. Understand, comply with, and demonstrate organizational policies and procedures alongside familiarity with applicable legislation and regulations. Assist in developing and implementing scheduled programming and individualized goals for individuals. Medication Administration responsibilities with adherence to medical and health protocols. Practice behavioural and crisis protocols consistently. Strong conflict resolution and decision-making skills to support the individuals. Maintain confidentiality of individuals, families, and other employees. Communicate positively and effectively with individuals, co-workers, and other members to create a safe, respectful, and productive environment. Complete written reports on individuals' behaviour and incidents, reading and initialing communication logs at the beginning/end of each shift. Self-motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.

Required Qualifications:



Diploma from a recognized college for Social Service Worker, Developmental Support Worker, Community Support Worker, or equivalent or a degree, diploma, or certificate in a related Human Services field with previous experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Current CPR/First Aid, Crisis Intervention/Safe Management certification. Ability to provide physical management and support for aggressive behavior. Valid G driver's license, driver's abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle. Proof of Vulnerable Sector Police check clearance dated within the last six months. Medical clearance for lifting, bending, stretching, stair climbing, and walking. Includes copy of relevant immunizations and vaccinations (including COVID-19) required to work in a congregate care environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, other computer related tasks and video conferencing.
