The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $72,242- $79,650 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $93,951 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate:
The Digital Scholarship Specialist (DSS) supports the UVic research community with the skills and tools to create, manage, and share digital data, exhibits, and stories, thereby fostering a dynamic environment for interdisciplinary research and creative expression.
Objectives:
  • The DSS supports students and faculty to integrate digital storytelling and knowledge mobilization practices into their research and coursework, including providing advice on the collection, management, and sharing of research data and other digital research objects.
  • The DSS develops and delivers customized instruction for class assignments that use library digital tools and exhibit platforms, including the creation of quality digital objects in a variety of formats including image/audio/video capture and editing.
The DSS also participates in the day-to-day operations of the UVic Libraries Digital Scholarship Commons, including staff hiring and training, and service delivery for makerspace and fabrication tools.
Job Requirements
This position requires a research-focused undergraduate degree, plus a minimum of three (3) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
  • Commitment to truth, reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and fostering an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Extensive research experience, leading projects from design through data collection, analysis, visualization, publication, and dissemination within academic environments.
  • Strong technical proficiency with data software (PowerBI, Tableau, R Studio, NVIVO, Taguette, Open Refine), multimedia tools (Canva, Adobe Suite, iMovie, Audacity), digital exhibit platforms (Spotlight, Omeka), and web publishing/content development.
  • Skilled in digital literacy, accessibility best practices, and effective data management and visualization.
  • Experienced with digital media equipment, including cameras, scanners, and audio/video recording devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver instruction sessions, workshops, and one-on-one tutoring with strong communication, storytelling, and documentation skills.
  • Proven project management, organizational, and administrative expertise, with a record of meeting deadlines and producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborative and independent worker with strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; adept at building productive relationships across diverse partners and levels of university personnel.
  • A research-focused advanced degree (master's or PhD) in any discipline is considered an asset.
