Role Overview




The

Digital Planning Director

leads and optimizes Spearhead's digital planning capabilities through strategic team development and operational excellence. This senior leadership role combines visionary leadership with hands-on mentoring to drive technical excellence, process improvement, and scalable growth across Spearhead's Digital Planning department. Rather than serving as the primary subject matter expert, this senior leadership role is focused on empowering others--cultivating talent, guiding strategic direction, and supporting scalable growth.



As a key member of the executive leadership team, the Digital Planning Director will collaborate with ownership and internal stakeholders to oversee the development and execution of Spearhead's digital planning strategies and team development initiatives.



The position involves progressive team leadership and talent development, including mentoring Sr Project Leaders, Project Leaders, and Project Managers to achieve their full potential while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities




Strategic Leadership & Planning

Develop and execute comprehensive digital planning strategies aligned with Spearhead's business objectives Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, collaborating with ownership and cross-functional stakeholders Champion innovation and technology advancement to maintain competitive advantage in digital planning capabilities Drive measurable impact on project delivery, technical capabilities, and operational efficiency Ensure the Digital Planning department is fully resourced and strategically aligned to execute efficiently and at the highest level across all project typologies, in line with Spearhead's vision

Team Development & Mentorship

Recognize and elevate the expertise of existing leaders within the Digital Planning department by fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation that promotes continued growth, development, and opportunity Lead, mentor, and develop Sr Project Leaders, Project Leaders, and Project Managers to achieve team growth and effectiveness Conduct annual performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support individualized development plans Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving Build and maintain high-performing teams through strategic hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies Ensure Digital Planning teams are aligned with strategic direction and project approaches developed by Project Strategists Coordinate with Project Strategists to identify mentorship opportunities and career development pathways for Project Leaders

Operational Excellence

Oversee digital planning operations to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality project outcomes within scope, schedule, and budget Develop and implement standardized processes, best practices, and quality control frameworks Optimize resource allocation and workload management across multiple concurrent projects Ensure seamless coordination between digital planning activities and fabrication, procurement, and project management functions Work closely with Project Strategists to ensure seamless project execution and handoff, leveraging their strategic expertise during complex project phases while maintaining oversight of digital planning deliverables

Technology Leadership

Stay current with digital planning technology evolution, including Cadwork, BIM software, and emerging industry tools Lead technology adoption initiatives and software implementation strategies to enhance departmental capabilities Champion knowledge sharing and documentation of best practices, lessons learned, project debriefs, and technical innovations

Quality Assurance & Communication

Establish and maintain comprehensive quality control processes for all digital planning outputs and deliverables Ensure QA/QC standards are consistently communicated, implemented, and monitored across all projects Maintain clear communication channels with project teams, clients, and internal stakeholders Represent Digital Planning capabilities in client presentations, industry conferences, and professional associations

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Attributes



Post-secondary education in architecture, project management, construction management, engineering, or related field 10+ years of progressive experience in digital planning, project management, or related leadership roles 5+ years in a senior leadership role with direct management responsibility and proven team development capabilities Extensive experience with Cadwork, BIM software (Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper), and project management tools Demonstrated excellence in team leadership, mentorship, and talent development with a track record of building high-performing teams Advanced knowledge of strategic planning, process optimization, and organizational development Exceptional communication and presentation skills with ability to influence and inspire teams Strong business acumen with understanding of project financials, resource management, and operational efficiency Collaborative and visionary leadership style with ability to foster innovation and drive change Experience in timber fabrication, mass timber, architecture, or construction industry preferred

Schedule and Working Conditions



Ability to work 8:30-5:00, Monday - Friday with flexibility for urgent business needs outside of regular business hours Ability to work on-site at Spearhead offices Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a regular basis Ability to work sitting or standing at a desk for work shifts Professional presentation and communication abilities for leadership responsibilities and external representation Ability to travel throughout the year to attend conferences, represent Spearhead at industry functions, and support business activities both domestically and abroad

Compensation



Pay range is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated salary range for this role is $120K-$160K Extended Health and Dental benefits Weekly Indemnity Insurance Group Savings Plan (effective January 1, 2026) Annual Incentive Plan eligibility
