Purpose:

Our division is comprised of four departments: Advancement Services & Operations is the administrative and technology support unit for all Advancement activities. Alumni Engagement provides programs, services, and engagement to over 350,000 York alumni worldwide. Development leads efforts to promote and secure philanthropic support from alumni, donors, friends, corporations, and foundations. Advancement Communications & Marketing works to promote and communicate alumni and donor messages along with direct marketing services for alumni and donor engagement. In support of this mission, under the direction of the Associate Director, Alumni Communications, the Digital Communications Officer aligns with the Division\'s mission by creating and disseminating media content aimed at showcasing York University\'s uniqueness, including its Alumni Engagement programs, projects and alumni, to external and internal audiences. Those audiences include alumni, donors, the community at large, and the York University community. The Digital Communications Officer also supports the advancement of York University\'s social media communications, including devising, creating, coordinating and publishing content, actively engaging in social media relationship building, analyzing the outcomes of website and social media activities, and recommending improvements based on analysis. The objective of the incumbent\'s work is to effectively develop communications assets and platforms that enhance York University\'s reputation, alumni, donor and community engagement.

Education:
Community College diploma in public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field or two years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below. Knowledge of fundraising professional standards and ethics. Knowledge of protocol and diplomacy.

Experience:
Minimum three (3) years\' experience working with a range of online communications and social media platforms and tools, including knowledge of social media analytics and demonstrated experience drafting reports based on analysis of digital communications statistics and reporting tools. Experience working in a post-secondary academic environment or communications/marketing/promotions in a not-for-profit organization would be an asset.

Demonstrated skills in sourcing, creating, optimizing appropriate and engaging content across digital platforms, utilizing knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the various platforms, including social media advertising. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to exercise good judgement with quick response times and maintain composure. Ability to develop online communities and networks. Ability to connect and collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Proven project coordination skills. Ability to think creatively. Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills. Tact and courtesy. Demonstrated Technical Skills including: Ability to navigate social media channels and platforms. Ability to analyze performance of digital channels and initiatives using online and social media management, monitoring and measuring tools. Ability to produce standards-compliant, clean, HTML web pages that leverage CSS for design and web development tools such as WordPress. Understanding of SEO and other web metrics and analytics. Knowledge of how to apply same, interpret data, and use results to improve ranking and effectiveness of web pages. Ability to storyboard, shoot, edit/manipulate, and publish video and photographs. Ability to record, integrate, and edit sound for video. Ability to effectively light a film/video or photography shoot. Ability to use multimedia editing software. Familiarity with AODA regulations. Intermediate word processing (MS Word). Basic spreadsheet (MS Excel)- Adobe Creative Suite.
