Job Description

Marina Point Village LP is currently seeking a full-time Dietary Aide / Cook (dual role) to join its Food Services Department. As a Dietary Aide / Cook, you will be an essential team member responsible for assisting in meal preparation, serving, and maintaining a clean dining environment. Your core skills in food handling, kitchen experience, and customer service will be utilized to ensure the well-being of residents and guests. With premium skills in time management and organization, you will efficiently manage tasks and communicate effectively with a diverse population.

As a Cook, you will fulfill the role of the primary cook on shift as well as assist in the coordination of the activities of the dietary aides who prepare, portion and serve food within the home in an effort to ensure the effective, efficient preparation, and delivery of quality meals and refreshments to all tenants, residents and guests within legislative and budgetary constraints and in alignment with all pleasurable dining and infection control considerations. Salary range while designated Cook is $19.80 - $20.83 per hour, in accordance with the CBA.

Food Services works to achieve the following:

To offer attractive and nutritious meals and snacks based on current nutritional standards and resident feedback.

To provide specialized diets and/or nutritional supplements in accordance with individual medical, spiritual and personal needs.

To make every meal service experience an enjoyable one.

To identify safety hazards within the physical environment and immediately report these to the JHSC.

To adhere to all safety measures, The Sanitation Code for Canada's food service industry and other precautions for the protection and comfort of the residents, family members, friends, employees and volunteers.

Skills & Qualifications:



Related food service and customer service experience.

Post-secondary diploma or certificate in chef training, culinary management or Food & Beverage Management is required or,

Holds a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook.

Previous and relevant Cook experience required. Experience in a Retirement Home or Long-Term Care is considered an asset.

Familiarity with HACCP, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety and Sanitation Code.

Basic understanding of kitchen cookware and appliances.

Excellent teamwork and effective communication skills.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.

High interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Willingness and ability to learn.

Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs, stand for long periods of time and walk short distances throughout the day; ability to tolerate heat in kitchen area.

Experience working in a Retirement Home is considered an asset.

Free from communicable diseases.

Food Handlers Certificate and Smart Serve Certificate required.

First Aid & CPR certification is preferred.

Bilingualism is considered an asset.

Must be available to work varying shifts including days, evenings and weekends and legally eligible to work in Canada.



Physical Demands:



Standing for long periods of time at food preparation tables - for up to 10hrs/day

Walking short distances and manoeuvring in tight spaces within kitchen and dining room environments

Pulling/pushing/lifting dishracks, food carts, bulk food items, etc, up to 50lbs

Reaching and lifting food items and kitchen tools from and to upper shelving up to 10lbs - at times with use of an 18inch to 3ft stepping ladder.

Ability to complete repetitive arm motions for periods of up to 1hr while peeling, chopping, and preparing food items.

Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs.

Working in warm temperatures for long periods of time

Memory work required to know dining room layout, table and section numbers and Residents.

Dexterity required to open caps, pull spray triggers, open condiment packages, etc.

There is much repetition in the tasks, must be able to organize time so to vary duties limiting repetitive movements.

Responsibilities:



Check menu for the days meals to prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents in a safe and attractive manner.

Efficiently prepare all meals, baking for continental breakfast and desserts as per menu specification, while keeping in mind all special diet needs of residents and working with a set budget, limiting waste and adhering to facility policies and procedures.

Review regular and therapeutic menus. Set up equipment and supplies for daily food production. Prepare food following standardized recipes. Ensure meals are served on time, at appropriate temperatures above 60 degree Celsius or below 4 degrees Celsius and record on temperature log sheet.

Perform cleaning tasks to achieve and maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the dining room and kitchen.

Maintain safe work practices at all times.

Follow established safety procedures for all food and equipment.

Be familiar with and adhere to food services policies and procedures.

Report equipment or supply requirements/repairs necessary for the efficient operation of the Food Services Department to the Manager of Food Services.

Monitor inventory and assure safe and proper storage of all food supplies; contribute to list of required items for order days as necessary.

Maintain/complete all required records and reports in accordance with policies and procedures (i.e. temperature logs, resident menus, etc).

Assist Cook and team members with preparing and cooking meals as required.

Prepare desserts and salads for service.

Serve food to residents observing special diet restrictions, resident preferences and outlined departmental procedures.

Be knowledgeable of all the residents that are on dietary restrictions.

Complete departmental cleaning.

Discard trash and remove waste after scheduled dining times.

Sets and clean dining tables and trays, load and safely operate dishwasher. Complete manual ware washing as required.

Dates, labels, and stores food properly.

Have a full understanding of and practice Infection Prevention and Control policies.

Responds to resident or family member concerns and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority and/or brings to the attention of the Food Services Manager.

Effectively communicates and interacts with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner. Projects an appropriate image and focuses on customer service excellence.

Be knowledgeable of and practice the facility's fire and safety programs.

Adhere to established company policies and procedures.

Work collaboratively and promote positive team spirit within the department.

Maintains good attendance record according to company policy.

Senior staff to assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

Attends departmental and Home's staff meetings, in-services and other necessary training sessions.

Perform other duties that are necessary and appropriate which may be assigned.

All employees must provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening (dated within 6 months) that is satisfactory to Marina Point Village and a 2 Step TB test.
