Job Description

Dietary Aides may work in a variety of areas within Nutrition and Food Services including, food preparation/production, dishroom and other ware washing, Link dining room, catering and special cleaning. Details and expectations of each area are outlined in each specific work routine.

Education

- Grade 10 or provincial standard equivalent. Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently. Must possess a City of Winnipeg Food Handler's Certificate or be willing to obtain this certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Experience

- Previous experience in the food services industry or in healthcare an asset.

Skills

- Must demonstrate ability to perform and communicate effectively in a team environment; show initiative and self-motivation to complete tasks on time with minimal supervision; must demonstrate good judgment and accountability. Must be dependable, punctual, accurate and honest. Good physical and mental health, manual dexterity. Position involves bending, stretching, heavy lifting and standing for long periods of time. Ability to work shifts at various times throughout the day between 0700 and 1830. Additional shifts for catering events may extend later into the evening as required.

Nutrition and Food Services Management

Specific responsibilities and expectations are outlined in detail in the individual work routines for each position. Involved in basic food preparation and assembly, portioning, meal service, ware washing, catering set-up, customer service and cleaning. Must follow the Dietary Kardex and abide by all diet restrictions for each resident. All resident dietary changes/preferences must be communicated to management from meal to meal as well as to necessary co-workers. Operation of equipment must be done in a safe and respected manner. Must maintain a high degree of customer service, whether the customer is a resident, family member, guest, or staff member. Must exhibit good personal hygiene, a neat and tidy appearance in accordance with the Home's dress code, and practice approved food safety and sanitation procedures. If working in the Link Cafeteria, will be required to handle cash, operate cash register and process deposits at the end of the day. Employee must be responsible and accountable for any variances. Determining accurate day-to-day requirements for certain items (i.e. sandwiches, salads) particularly if working in the Link Cafeteria. Some positions are required or may be requested to put away groceries and supplies and wash pots. For anyone receiving supplies it is imperative to: Check quantities received vs. quantity ordered vs. quantity billed on the invoice. Check quality - spoilage, damage, picking errors, substitutions. Report all variances to the Nutrition and Food Services Management. Put supplies that are perishable away first and rotate inventory on a "First In/First Out Inventory. Participates in departmental staff meeting and in-services. Adherence to all safety and health regulations and safe work practices. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Pay: $19.26-$23.23 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10 per week
