Job Description




The Dietary Aide supports the dietary team in serving and providing nutritious, appealing meals to residents in accordance with individual dietary needs and preferences. This position plays a key role in meal service, food preparation, and maintaining a clean, safe food service environment. The Dietary Aide ensures that mealtimes are dignified, timely, and enjoyable for all residents.

Key Responsibilities:



Serve food and beverages to residents according to individual diets, textures, and preferences. Ensure meals are served within established time frames and at proper serving temperatures. Set and clear tables in the dining room for meal service. Assist cooks with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables, preparing salads, and simple breakfast items or desserts. Follow standardized recipes and instructions for basic food preparation tasks. Clear dishes and trays from dining areas; load and operate the dishwasher; clean and sanitize pots, pans, and utensils according to procedures. Label, date, and properly store leftover foods and dietary supplies. Participate in routine cleaning and sanitation of kitchen and service areas. Assemble nourishment carts and deliver them as required. Stock unit kitchenettes and maintain appropriate inventory levels. Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including those related to food safety, infection prevention and control, environmental safety, fire regulations, and quality assurance. Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service education sessions as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by the Support Services Supervisor or designate.

Qualifications:



High school diploma or equivalent. Current Food Handler's Certification is an asset. Previous experience in a dietary or food service role, preferably in a long-term care or healthcare setting, is an asset. Knowledge of infection control, safe food handling, and WHMIS procedures. Ability to follow instructions, work in a team environment, and communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff. Physical ability to meet the demands of the job, including standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and performing repetitive tasks.
