Overview:This position is located in Hay River, NTThe Diesel Mechanic will participate as a member of the Energy South Operations Mechanical Services Team and perform advanced Journeyperson level mechanical work and system diagnostics in support of diesel generation and hydro generation as well as associated balance of plant equipment including but not limited to compressors, heat exchangers, oil and fuel systems, tools, governors and mobile
equipment. The incumbant shall always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties. Responsibilities:

• Maintains and repairs diesel engines, hydro turbines, generators of various sizes and plant auxiliary equipment as per Corporation guidelines and manufacture's recommendations.
• Must be able to understand, schedule and troubleshoot sophisticated equipment, critical to production and often controlled remotely or computer operated.
• Participates with the planning of scheduled maintenance and planned overhauls. Includes preparing / obtaining required parts / equipment and completes the required work protection permits as per Corporation policy prior to commencement of work.
• Performs routine trips to remote satellite plants for inspection, preventative maintenance, installation and repairs to equipment.
• Inspects and maintains tank farms, fuel transfer lines, pump houses and fuel tank levels. Receives, inspect and log any fuel or lube oil deliveries to plant sites. Reports any unusual conditions immediately to supervisor and immediately report any spillage of hazardous materials to supervisor and spill line.
• Identifies and/or rectify any unsafe or potentially hazardous condition at or around the work site. If unable to rectify, incumbent must immediately notify supervisor and anyone that may be affected by the condition.
• Maintains clean and safe work environment at all times. Acts in a pro-active manner to make timely recommendations for continuous improvement of Corporation operations and equipment.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Qualified Journeyperson Red Seal Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic certification (or certification deemed equivalent by NTPC), with at least four (4) years journeyperson experience in related industrial power plant work environment employing 2MW or above diesel engines, generators and related equipment. Equivalencies may be considered.
• Valid NWT Class 5 driver's license.
• Experience in hydro generation would be an asset.
• Experience utilizing CMMS software, Microsoft Office Suite of productivity programs and engine diagnostic programs.
• Experience interpreting drawings, specifications and schematics.
• Experience diagnosing and solving mechanical problems.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form, as well as work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
• Ability to perform work in confined spaces and at heights.
• Satisfactory criminal record check.

Salary for this position ranges from $50.05/hr. - $60.81/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum.
