Position Title

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructors (Scan Lab, Part-Time)

The School of Health & Wellness is currently inviting applications for Sonography Scan Lab Instructors! Come be part of shaping the next generation of sonographers!


We are seeking instructors for the Winter semester (January - April 2026). Scan labs are scheduled for Wednesdays and Fridays during the day at Red Deer Polytechnic's Main Campus.


The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is a new two-year diploma that prepares graduates to become sonographers following graduation and successful completion of Sonography Canada credentialing exams. This program offers an exceptional opportunity to work closely with students, faculty, and staff in a supportive and innovative environment that promotes creativity, scholarship, and student success.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

Educating students in normal and abnormal sonographic assessment of the abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, small parts, and vascular structures via peer-to-peer scanning, standardized patients, and scanning simulators Teaching and supervising students during scan lab classes, providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students Demonstrating proper use of sonography equipment and techniques Maintaining current knowledge of sonographic techniques and industry standards to support evidence-informed instruction Supporting ergonomics and safe scanning practices Identifying areas where students need extra practice or improvement Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material including scanning and imaging protocols, assignments, and lab activities Collaborating with instructional team members to ensure alignment between lab, classroom, and clinical learning outcomes Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work

Required Qualifications

Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Current registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in good standing with Sonography Canada Recent clinical/practical experience in sonography Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success All applicable areas of expertise and specialization will be considered. However, we are especially interested in applicants with generalist experience in both hospital and community sonography departments

Part-Time Instructors:

Receive an additional 14% of their gross salary in lieu of benefits and vacation pay. Part-time instructors are not eligible for comprehensive health and dental benefits packages. Eligible for individual professional development funding, additional free professional development opportunities offered through the institution.
Eligibility to access the above-mentioned benefits is dependent upon the FARDP
