Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager Quality and Process Improvement, the incumbent is responsible for providing clerical support to the Shared Health Diagnostic Imaging Program including: accurately and consistently processing electronic files into the Radiology Information System database using manual and electronic order entry databases. Reviewing requisitions based on urgency and modality requirements. Screening requisitions for completeness and contacting referring physician offices, other health professionals or patients to gather missing data. Obtaining new and existing hospital numbers from central registries across all Shared Health facilities as required. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing clerical support to members of the Shared Health Diagnostic Imaging Team.

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience within the last 5 years in a high volume computerized medical office including processing large volumes of requisitions while maintaining exceptional attention to detail is required.
  • Experience with RightFax and Laser Fiche considered and asset.
  • Experience in Diagnostic Imaging Department or of Diagnostic Imaging Requisition processing preferred.
  • Previous experience establishing and maintaining excellent interpersonal relationships with all levels of staff, Physician offices, and the public and external agencies is required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Completion of high school education, Manitoba standards required.
  • Completion of a Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate or Medical Office Assistant Certificate, including medical terminology is required from a recognized institute.
  • Completion of medical terminology is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Accurate typing minimum 50 WPM required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook required.
  • Must be highly motivated, meticulous, detailed orientated and have strong organizational skills.
  • The candidate will be able to adjust and adapt in an environment that requires frequent changes and be able to demonstrate "flexibility" in assigned duties or program process changes.
  • The ability to work in a fast paced environment is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work under the direction of the Manager and adhere to details.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a multi-faceted team environment with a demonstrated ability to work independently and function cooperatively within the team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality understanding the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) guidelines.
Physical Requirements
  • May work in an open area concept environment and will be subject to frequent interruptions and noise.
  • Sitting for long periods of time using a computer.
  • Frequent deadline pressures.
  • Requires careful attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
