The 911 DevOps team offers multiple services - related to Regulated Services. The team drives regulatory mandates based on governance driven by CRTC to which Telus is mandated to adhere.

You are a skilled technical lead with a passion for discovering and automating data analysis and insights. You know how to leverage your eye for strategy and exceptional judgement to communicate these insights to our team and our stakeholders.

Together, with this team of engineers you will support:

  • 911 Product Management and provide liaison to Translations Design and Provisioning teams by providing detailed requirements for all 911
  • Related cutover activities and required augments / updates to 911 translations in AB / BC /ON.
  • 911 ALI servers from a system perspective.
  • Complex test, 911 Support, 911 Customer Service Management, NTS switching and other groups within TELUS with any 911 issues requiring
  • Tier 3 assistance
  • 911 Address Group on any 911 routing issues
  • Centrex Design and Centrex Assignment and Activations team from a tier 3 support methodology
  • Creating scripts and tools to enhance and maintain critical insights from raw data. You will be developing dashboard reporting using analytics tools and collaborating with internal business partners to continuously deliver value by adding alerting, proactive or predictive capabilities.
  • Drive process improvement through automation and learn to apply solutions to help our stakeholders unlock the potential from their data.
What you'll do

The 911 DevOps Engineer will work with the respected vendors to provide the design and implementation mops to the Customer and/or Core teams who would implement all solutions. Part of this function is to liaison with the 911 address group for any required 911 emergency service zone cutovers.

Will be called upon by various groups in TELUS to provide tier 3 support for any 911 troubles / issues, network concerns/outages and any fatality enquires specific to 911 network. All calls will be tracked on any outages causing 9-1-1 routing issues and reports will be created to be shared with our Regulatory department for the CRTC.

Support all work for the evolution and implementation of the Next Gen 911 infrastructure while sustaining the reliability of the legacy E911 network.

What you bring

Advanced knowledge, understanding and experience of:
  • Linux (Red Hat Enterprise/CentOS), Video encoding / transcoding
  • IPV4 & IPV6 including but not limited to TCP/IP, ICMP, UDP, Multicast, HTTPS, SNMP, DHCP, SSL protocols, Internet routing and firewalls
  • Knowledge in DNS Operations, CDN (Concepts and Network Architecture/performance monitoring principles)
  • Microsoft and Unix/BSD Operating Systems, Scripting with Bash/Perl/Python/Shell
  • Network Storage (NFS, CIFS, Gluster), Network Virtualization-VMWare, KVM, Hyper-V
  • F5 Load Balancing
  • Experience with generating test plans and managing/performing the ensuing update and testing procedures
  • Understanding of the voice and data interactions of a 9-1-1 call and the systems involved
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking (routers/firewalls) for ESInet, Working knowledge of the NENA/TELUS AQS protocol
  • Ability to perform trouble analysis and working knowledge of geospatial systems
  • Hands-on familiarity with testing methodologies, and quality control
  • With 4-6 years of relevant experience, requiring advanced technical and analytical skills, confident in making and owning technical decisions
  • Support specific customer issues through assessment, interpretation, resolution or recommendations and strong verbal and written communication skills, confident with presenting material to peers and senior management
  • Represent TELUS at the industry level (Emergency Services Working Group) on relevant TIF initiatives
  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or Technology graduate and/or equivalent combination of experience and education
Great-to-Haves
  • Experience in telecommunications, demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of a wireless/wireline core network
  • Familiar with Linux and Apache, lighttpd webservers
  • Scripting with Bash/Perl/Python
  • OpenVMS OS
  • Knowledge on analytics tools (Splunk, Tableau, ELK)
  • SQL (Oracle, MySQL)
  • Switching translations skills
  • Development experience (Shell, Perl, PHP, etc.)
  • Have excellent presentation skills and communication skills
  • Good project management skills
