Crisis Prevention DT : 35-40 hour work week

Oakwood Academy is seeking a qualified applicant to work as a Crisis Prevention Developmental Therapist in our school-based programs. As a Crisis Prevention Developmental Therapist your role will include:



Provide on-going support to de-escalate complex or challenging behaviours of children ages 8-18 years. Must have the ability to work independently with students, as well as a member of the treatment team. Willingness to continue education and certification in the field of child development required Direct Services that apply the ability to promote a provider-family collaborative approach Monitoring progress, daily planning and reporting

Qualifications Required



Strong knowledge and experience working with children, adolescence and young adults youth with developmental disorders, mental illness, challenging behaviours (ages of 3-21 years) Must have strong written and oral communication skills Strong ability to work in interdisciplinary health teams Demonstrate strong skills in taking initiative Demonstrate ability to cope and remain calm in stressful situations Ability to problem-solve in crisis situations Strong organizational and time management skills Asset: Ministry approved Crisis intervention Training (eg. UMAB, CPI, Safe Management)

Main Accountabilities:



Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team including Speech and Occupational therapists, psychologists, families, Supervisors, Directors and all faculty members with a continuing goal to build knowledge base Exceptional attendance and punctuality

Excellent written and spoken communication skills Superior listening and social skills Well-developed influencing and negotiating skills Ability to work collaboratively with others with varying backgrounds and

Experiences:



Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills Ability to understand and explain concepts to others Strong Word software skills ability to problem-solve in crisis situations Physically fit with ability to lift or transfer up to 80lbs Moderate to strong athleticism Minimum Beginner Level training and experience in DIR (or eligible) 3 year post-graduate experience providing mental health treatment CPI or UMAB training (asset)
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 10 months

Pay: $28.11-$30.55 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
