Step by Step Early Intervention Society is a charitable organization providing exceptional early childhood education, therapeutic and family supports for developmentally delayed and disabled children and their families.
We are currently accepting applicants for a developmental aide to work in-home with clients that are accessing services through Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). Clients span in age from 2-7 years with a range of diagnoses, including but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy. Services are provided in Calgary and surrounding areas with current placements in the four quadrants of the city.
The developmental aide's main responsibility is to work with children and families in their home and community implementing strategies given by the therapists or behaviour strategists to target a child's individual goals. The aide works in close collaboration with the Step by Step team members to create a program that encourages each child to meet their full potential while supporting parents as well.
Individuals should be able to work in the home of the client and be able to transport themselves around the city to various locations.
Responsibilities
Plan activities and implement strategies that promote the child's goals in consultation with therapists.
Implement independent and supported play, as well as help the child to develop their daily living skills
Promote the development of communication skills, which may include an augmentative communication system.
Provide a fun, positive environment that encourages the child's success.
Support and enable parents to implement effective strategies in their homes.
Work in collaboration with other individuals involved in the care of the child.
Accurately account for their time using the organizations tracking system
Education
High School Diploma
Preferred:
Experience and interest in working with children, children with disabilities or people with disabilities.
Required:
A reliable way to efficiently get from one area of the city to the next.
Willingness to work in-home, which can be in any quadrant of the city
Able to lift 40lbs, keep up with active work on their feet for the entire shift.
Must be able to work at a child's level- i.e. able to be down on the floor to play.
Able to produce a clear criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check after being hired.
Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal. You will be required to teach English language skills and must be able to clearly communicate, read and write in English fluently.
Skills and Attitude
Passionate about working with children.
Experience working with children with disabilities is an asset but not a requirement.
Excellent understanding of how to work with children and families effectively and respectfully.
Able to collaborate and willing to learn from others.

Pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour
