Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Development Planner I position in the Planning & Development Services Department. Reporting to the Senior Planner, Development Planning, the Development Planner I plays a pivotal role in contributing to the Planning & Development Services initiatives of Parkland County. The Development Planner I is responsible for reviewing and making decisions related to residential and non-residential development permit applications in accordance with the County's Land Use Bylaw and other applicable legislation. The Development Planner I is responsible for responding to inquiries and providing accurate information to the County's development customer base.
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:A Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Environmental Design, or related discipline with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a related field.
Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or the Alberta Development Officers' Association is considered an asset.
Strong working knowledge of development permit applications, land use planning practices and the demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate complex challenges to form effective decisions.
Knowledge related to Land Use Bylaw applicable sections of the Municipal Government Act, and an understanding of the development permitting process.
Strong customer service skills with demonstrated ability to respond to and anticipate customer needs professionally.
Strong conflict resolution, active listening, and communication skills.
Possess the skills to effectively balance competing and conflicting interests, application deadlines and work tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
