The Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) is the scientifically acclaimed applied research division of Olds College. OCCI works with industry partners, other research organizations, and the College Smart Ag Ecosystem to define and execute applied research projects. OCCI's goal is to accelerate the development and adoption of agricultural technologies and practices to improve productivity and sustainability of food production. OCCI's current focus is on broadacre, dryland crop production, beef production, and sheep production with a focus on integrating technology and utilizing data for better management decisions.
Olds College is a lead institution, with Red Deer Polytechnic, for the Central Alberta Regional Innovation Network (CARIN) ,which is a community-based organization that supports the growth of technology and knowledge-based businesses in Central Alberta. The Development Partner (CARIN) is the lead position at Olds College for CARIN, and is responsible for creating, managing and implementing the business supports for entrepreneurs and small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and connecting with similar business support agencies in the wider ecosystem. This position will report to the Senior Development Partner in the Office of Research Services department.
In addition to working closely with Olds College's research team and other departments, this position also works closely with the innovation team at Red Deer Polytechnic to meet the responsibilities and expectations associated with the Central Alberta Regional Innovation Network.

Key Job Functions:
Business & Student Engagement
Identify and recruit Central Alberta businesses to participate in the student pilot program
Connect member businesses with students during participation in Alberta's broader tech and innovation ecosystem events
Marketing & Communications
Promote CARIN initiatives and member companies through newsletters and online channels
Collaborate with internal and external partners to increase awareness of CARIN programs and services
Ecosystem & Stakeholder Collaboration
Facilitate introductions and relationships between industry, academia, and government stakeholders
Provide access to province-wide innovation events, talent programs, and networking opportunities
Regional & Provincial Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the other seven Regional Innovation Networks (RINs) to promote shared services and initiatives
Support cross-regional collaboration aligned with the objectives of the OCCI and the College
Reporting & Administration
Track and document all activities, categorizing outcomes for reporting and accountability purposes
Submit regular reports on program activities and engagement metrics
Business Advisory & Commercialization Support
Collaborate with entrepreneurs and SMEs to help overcome challenges related to commercialization and technology adoption
Support clients in progressing ideas toward viable business models
Innovation Ecosystem Navigation
Assist entrepreneurs and SMEs in navigating Alberta's innovation ecosystem, including programs, funding, and support services
Connect clients to relevant resources, partners, and educational opportunities
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:
Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, or a related area is required. A masters degree would be preferred
1 to 2 years of experience in entrepreneur development programs
Exceptional interpersonal skills, combined with an ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and able to work under tight deadlines
The successful candidate must be willing to work flexible hours. Some evening and weekend work may be required
Great understanding of business to perform thorough research and analysis, including using various frameworks, such as Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT)
Understanding and knowledge of the agriculture sector would be considered a strong asset
Highly adaptable and extremely self-motivated
Strategic thinker and strong leadership skills
Strong community network to support building collaboration and build synergies in the agri-food/business development sector
Demonstrate a strong dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity by actively seeking out and valuing diverse perspectives, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals of all backgrounds, and continuously striving to create a culture of respect and understanding
