In accordance with the , this position has a comprehensive and an annual salary range of $63,090 to $105,189. This position has an initial appointment of 1 year.
Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at Enterprise Square.
The Leadership Annual Giving Office of the University of Alberta is the building block for all philanthropic support. The Leadership Annual Giving Office allows the university to pool support from multiple donors to meet the current and pressing needs of students and researchers in the faculties and the university as a whole.
Reporting to the Manager of Leadership Annual Giving, the Development Officer's primary responsibility is to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors who have the capacity to make annual gifts of $1,000-$50,000 and to identify those who have the capacity to make a major or planned gift. There are approximately 3,000 donors in this range in any given year with the goal of increasing the number of donors who fit or have the potential to fit within this criteria.
The Development Officer participates in designing and implementing successful strategies for leadership annual gift solicitations, and is responsible for ensuring the integrity of information in the university's Advance database relevant to assigned prospects. In addition, the Development Officer serves to provide support to advancement colleagues, faculties, other university officers, and senior administrators involved in major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities. As appropriate, manages projects and programs as assigned.
Responsibilities:

• Manage a Prospect Portfolio and Drive Gift Closures: Maintain a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects with the capacity to give between $1,000 and $50,000. The main goal is to conduct 100-150 personal visits annually, leading to 18-24 gift proposals with a target closure rate of one-third.
• Implement Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy: Design and execute strategies focused on the entire donor lifecycle, including qualification, retention, renewal, and upgrading leadership annual gift donors.
• Ensure Accurate Prospect Management and Documentation: Maintain the integrity of the prospect management system by ensuring timely filing of contact reports and follow-up correspondence, prioritizing prospects, and accurately documenting all transactions, moves, and activities in the Advance database.
• Serve as a Faculty Development Liaison: Collaborate with university faculties to plan and implement development initiatives, offering advice and support on leadership annual giving strategies, and promoting a university-wide understanding of Development's critical role.
• Support the Major and Planned Gift Pipeline: Work closely with colleagues to identify and cultivate major and planned gift prospects, ensuring a smooth transition along the donor continuum and providing personalized stewardship.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree;
• At least 3 years of professional work experience with proven transferability to fundraising and development work;
• Experience in fundraising is an asset;
• Self-motivated, proactive, energetic, creative, and goal-oriented individual;
• Proven ability to work autonomously and to handle multiple accounts simultaneously;
• Superior communications skills;
• Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced business setting;
• Understanding of the value and culture of philanthropy;
• Exceptional people skills and the ability to be insightful, responsive, creative and engaging;
• A sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated;
• Results-minded, while remaining a team player who recognizes the value others bring to the team.
