We currently have a career opportunity for a Detect and Avoidance (DAA) R&D Engineer.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and integration of detect and avoidance (DAA) systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS)
  • Gather requirements, analyze source data systems, and interpret data to draw actionable conclusions
  • Develop tools for automated data analysis and maintain data collection and storage systems
  • Ensure system validation by creating and executing test plans
  • Prepare technical documentation, management briefings, and/or log reports
  • Debug and resolve technical issues as necessary
  • May actively participate in Field Operations to evaluate technologies for the applicability for specific use cases (10%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or math
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in an engineering or related position
  • Experience analyzing sensor data to assess system performance
  • Experience working with databases, schemas, pipelines, data definition and manipulation languages
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python, and/or C/C++/C#

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience generating reports and / or dashboards automatically based on large datasets to derive actionable insights
  • Experience with cloud computing and cloud infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience integrating common perception sensors (such as cameras, radar, lidar or sonar) with other software systems
  • Working knowledge of robotics concepts needed for detect and avoidance systems such as perception, state estimation, and / or motion planning
  • Experience with aircraft collision avoidance systems such as radar, TCAS, FLARM or ADS-B
  • Knowledge, industry experience and / or certifications in general or unmanned aviation

Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel
  • Full Time
  • 37.5 hours per week and some overtime occasionally
  • Valid Class-G driver’s license in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required
  • Outdoor work, exposure to cold, heat or other weather elements
