About the Opportunity
Watershed Management Consulting, a leader in strategic consulting and destination development, is seeking a dynamic and seasoned
Lead Consultant
to guide the delivery of a high-impact
destination marketing project
for the
City of Greater Sudbury
. This is a flagship initiative to rebrand and reposition the city as a premier leisure and business travel destination across Canada.
The successful candidate will
lead the strategic direction and creative execution
of this multi-phased project, collaborating with a cross-functional team of branding experts, creatives, media specialists, and city stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Phase 1: Brand Strategy & Identity
Lead the development of a compelling destination brand for Greater Sudbury.
Facilitate brand audits, competitive analysis, and stakeholder consultations.
Craft messaging architecture and audience profiles to guide narrative strategy.
Translate brand strategy into creative briefs for execution teams.
Phase 2: Campaign Launch & Oversight
Direct the creation of integrated marketing campaigns across print, digital, and experiential channels.
Provide creative feedback, strategic alignment, and quality assurance during production.
Ensure all campaign assets reflect the City's core values, identity, and tourism vision.
Phase 3: Ongoing Advisory & Oversight
Serve as the strategic lead for all recurring and ad-hoc marketing initiatives.
Advise on media strategies, content planning, and performance optimization.
Collaborate with internal City teams to ensure campaigns align with business development, tourism, and economic growth goals.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 8-10 years
of consulting experience in destination marketing, place branding, tourism strategy, or integrated marketing.
Proven track record of leading municipal, regional, or national-level branding or marketing programs.
Strong knowledge of media planning, creative development, and tourism promotion across B2C and B2B channels.
Demonstrated ability to guide diverse creative and strategy teams through complex, high-profile projects.
Strong understanding of community engagement and inclusive branding practices.
Experience in working with public sector clients and navigating procurement-driven project environments is a must.
Superior communication and facilitation skills.
Preferred Assets
Experience with Ontario or Canadian tourism brands.
Bilingual (English/French) or ability to lead bilingual creative projects.
Understanding of AODA compliance in marketing design.
Familiarity with municipal procurement and public communications policies.
