Job Description

Reporting to Manager of Design office, the role involves collaborating with engineers, interpreting specifications, improving designs for manufacturability, and ensuring all work meets quality and industry standards. Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and strong problem-solving skills are essential.


This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person's business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).


Key Responsibilities



Develop concepts, detailed drawings and models of considerable complexity using specifications, calculations and vendor data. Prepare or direct the preparation of final design layouts and manufacturing documentation in accordance with approved standards, policies and procedures. Ensure technical quality and accuracy of project work. Prepare work estimates and participate in planning activities and progress meetings as required. Ensure appropriate application of engineering design resources to achieve project cost objectives. Assist with prototyping and assembly activities and advise on corrective action to resolve design problems. Work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and other teams to ensure design work meets requirements. Evaluate and suggest improvements to product designs and design/drafting processes.

Qualifications



Normally Technologist Diploma (3 years) in mechanical or other appropriate technology 6-8 years directly related experience Proficiency in use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office applications Five (5) or more years' experience in use of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD system Three (3) or more years' experience in use of AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD Understanding of PDM (preferably Autodesk Vault) and configuration management concepts Experience with ISO 9001 quality management systems Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, CSA & ANSI drawing standards

Skills and Competencies



SolidWorks systems administration (network licensing and application deployment) Product Data Management (PDM) systems expertise (preferably Autodesk Vault)
