Design Quality Engineer

Mississauga, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

As a Design Quality Engineer (DQE), you will be the critical link between product design and quality control - ensuring that every design is not only robust and functional, but also manufacturable, measurable, and compliant with quality standards from the earliest stages of development.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of design, quality, and manufacturing--someone who can think like an engineer, solve problems with precision, and execute with technical excellence. You will act as the technical lead within QA, responsible for making sure our products are not just functional on paper, but also repeatable, measurable, and ready for production.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive successful project execution from concept through to production. Success will require a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, a sharp eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate and support risk management activities such as FMEA across multiple product lines. Using SolidWorks, you will design and implement custom measurement fixtures, gauges, and validation tools. Lead tolerance stack-up analyses to ensure dimensional compatibility and manufacturability. Support development of control plans, gauge correlation studies, and inspection standards. You will perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage R&R. Reviewing and interpreting PPAP/FA documentation is second nature to you, and SPC might as well be your second language. Perform hands-on inspection and troubleshooting using CMMs and visual measurement systems. Act as a key liaison between Engineering and Quality teams to translate design intent into production validation. Support and guide Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) activities from concept through production launch and ensure QC procedures and documentation align with ISO 9001 standards.

Ideal Candidate Skills Set:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a P.Eng designation preferred. 8+ years of experience in a mechanical design or design-for-quality role Detail-oriented mindset with strong focus on accuracy and thoroughness Strong proficiency in DFMEA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis Proven experience with CMM equipment, optical measurement tools, and fixture design Familiarity with ISO 9001 environments and associated QA documentation Deep understanding of AQP, PPAP processes, and production validation cycles Experience with SolidWorks(TM) (including PDM) in a machine design capacity, MS Office tools. Ability to work independently while operating as part of a team. Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills. Must hold a Canadian or US citizenship.
