We are looking for two Design Engineers/Designers, Electrical & Traction power to join our team!What You Will DoReporting to the Senior Design Engineer - Electrical, you will be responsible for providing expertise in relation to engineering work associated with the design, operations, maintenance and rehabilitation of TTC's systems and components for buildings and facilities, electrical and traction power systems, substations and, subway and surface structures.Other responsibilities of your role will include:

• Planning, scheduling and producing detailed design, contract specifications and engineering drawings for department specific system projects.
• Coordinating, directing and guiding relevant TTC staff and/or consultants, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers in section specific design work, equipment or systems
• Resolving design issues to ensure compliance with TTC design standards and specifications.
• Performing a variety of complex engineering calculations to produce complete engineering designs and specifications for section and department specific system projects.
• Investigating, evaluating, and testing new, existing or proposed systems, components and/or construction methods; troubleshoot operating problems, malfunctions/faults; recommending alternate design, procedures, equipment, materials and related matters.
• Compiling cost and quantity estimates for specific projects and programs; monitoring to meet project and departmental goals and objectives.
• Initiating relevant procurement process, reviewing technical proposals and quotations from consultants for compliance with Branch requirements, evaluating tenders, recommending for award and monitoring progress.
• Performing feasibility studies, surveys and assessing the condition of existing systems and equipment, determining the extent of repair, safety of equipment and systems; performing random audits at sites to determine quality assurance and conformance to design.
• Providing technical support and engineering guidance to relevant staff on a 24-hour basis as required.
• Providing design review expertise of submissions received from the EC&E Group at various stages of design and providing comments concerning compliance with Subway Operations Branch requirements.
• Reporting significant safety, hazard, security, cost, reliability, warranty, quality and other engineering issues in a timely manner.
• Independently accessing all TTC properties, construction sites, and track level on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week.
• Going into the field before the design starts, during the design and construction phases, and during the testing and commissioning phase.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

• Your educational background will consist of the completion of a university degree in a related discipline (i.e., Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
• Your registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) as a licensed Engineer, or your progress with the ability to obtain a P.Eng licence within a year will be required. Your job title and pay will be commensurate with your experience.
• Your application will demonstrate several years of related work experience, including recent practical experience with circuit breakers, protective relays, overcurrent protection coordination, uninterrupted power supply and battery backup, lighting, and electrical and traction power systems.
• Your sound knowledge of electrical and traction power design principles, equipment, and systems used by the TTC, along with your knowledge of industrial power systems including switchgear, transformers, emergency power supplies, electrical grounding, protection and metering, lighting and power systems electrical test equipment will also be evident in your application.
• You will have sound judgement and well-developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and engineering report-writing skills.
• Your proficiency with personal computers and computerized applications related to the work (i.e., MS Office, MS Word, Excel, etc.), including Microstation CADD systems and operations, will be beneficial in this role.
• In this role, you will have or acquire Subway Rulebook Certification to be able to work at track level, and Work Protection Code training to be able to work on site in an electrical environment.
• Lastly, your application will demonstrate strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, CEC, CSA, NFPA, and applicable codes/practices/standards, the TTC's electrical and traction power systems and the associated electrical/electronic equipment as well as the various functions carried out by the Signals/Electrical/Communications Department.
