Job Description

Current Lighting is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern/Co-Op to join our Montreal facility, supporting research & development, design, testing, and optimization of advanced electronic circuits used in our luminaires and lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications. This paid position offers an hourly rate of $20-23 CAD per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Key responsibilities



Assist engineers with design, analysis, testing and validation of advanced electronics circuits and assemblies including AC-DC, DC-DC power conversion, current & voltage regulation, circuit protection, wired and wireless control interfaces and elements (analog and digital) microcontrollers, employing a wide range of standard and proprietary protocols and interfaces. Build and test prototypes, including board layout, fabrication, bring-up, debugging, and performance measurements using state-of-the art lab equipment. Help execute test plans for performance against requirements, safety, reliability, photometric, and regulatory compliance, documenting results in detail and recommending improvements. Support updates to schematics, BOMs, PCB layouts, firmware, software and other design documentation in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor related to product performance, manufacturability, and energy efficiency.

Required qualifications



Active student in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) with at least two years of coursework completed. Foundational knowledge of electronic circuit design, including basic power electronics, analog & digital circuits and microcontroller-based systems. Experience with common EE instruments & tools (soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, multimeters, basic and advanced lab equipment). Familiarity with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout such as Altium Designer, as well as other electrical & mechanical simulation and design tools like Mathcad, pSpice, Solidworks, as well as rapid-prototyping techniques such as PCB CNC and 3D printing are considered valuable assets. Able and willing to work onsite in Montreal, QC at Current Lighting's facility for the full duration of the term.

Term details & application



Location: Current Lighting Solutions Canada Inc., Montreal facility. Work arrangement: Onsite, full-time during the Co-Op / internship term. Term: 4-8 months, starting January 2026. Compensation: $20-$23 CAD per hour, based on skills and experience. Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada for the duration of the internship; Co-Op office approval if applicable.

Responsabilites cles



Soutenir les ingenieurs dans la conception, l'analyse, les essais et la validation de circuits et d'assemblages electroniques avances, incluant entre autres: des convertisseurs AC-DC, DC-DC, des regulateurs de courant et de tension, la protection des circuits, ainsi que les interfaces de controle direct et en reseau cablees et sans fil (analogiques et numeriques), des microcontroleurs, en implementant divers protocoles standards et proprietaires. Assembler et faire la validation des prototypes, incluant le dessin de PCB, leur fabrication et mise en service, le debogage et l'evaluation de performance a l'aide d'equipements de laboratoire avancee. Participer a l'execution des plans de test, evaluer la performance par rapport aux exigences, a la securite, a la fiabilite, aux normes photometriques et reglementaires, en documentant en detail les resultats et en recommandant des ameliorations. Effectuer la mise a jour des schemas, liste de pieces (BOM), conception de circuits imprimes, logiciels embarques, et autres documents de conception en collaboration avec des equipes multidisciplinaires. Contribuer aux initiatives d'amelioration continue a l'atelier de production par rapport aux performances des produits, leur fabricabilite et leur efficacite energetique.

Qualifications requises

Etudiant(e) actif(ve) en genie electrique (ou discipline connexe) ayant complete au moins deux annees de cours. Connaissances fondamentales en conception de circuits electroniques, incluant les circuits de puissance de base, les circuits analogiques et numeriques, ainsi que les systemes a base de microcontroleurs. Experience avec les instruments et outils habituelles en genie electrique (equipements de soudure, oscilloscopes, multimetres, equipements de laboratoire de base et avancees). Familiarite avec les outils de CAO electronique (saisi de schemas et la conception de PCB) tels qu'Altium Designer, ainsi qu'avec les outils de simulation et de conception electronique et mecanique tels que Mathcad, pSpice et SolidWorks. La maitrise des techniques de prototypage rapide (CNC pour PCB, impression 3D) constitue un atout important. Capacite et volonte de travailler sur site a Montreal (QC) dans les installations de Current Lighting pour la totalite de la duree du stage.
