The Design Cost Estimator will play a key role in supporting the design, cost estimation, and quality systems within Norseman's operations. This role bridges engineering design, process costing, and quality control, ensuring accurate project estimates, manufacturable designs, and compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop CAD models and 2D/3D drawings using SolidWorks for foam packaging solutions.
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), Bills of Operations (BOOs), and work instructions.
Read and interpret drawings, spec sheets, and other data provided by customers or sales staff.
Perform cost estimation and quoting for new and existing projects.
Work with sales staff and customers to develop design solutions that will meet customer needs
Determine products and manufacturing specifications required for job completion.
Collaborate with sales and production teams to prepare customer quotations.
Design for Manufacturability to optimize material usage and reduce scrap.
Conduct in-process checks, and final product validation.
Support ISO 9001:2015 compliance, preparing inspection reports, and audit documentation.
Manage documentation for new product launches and customer requirements.
Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance efficiency and reduce defects.
Work with production to ensure accurate data flow between departments.
Provide technical support during project launches and customer reviews.
Contribute to process improvements and workflow optimization within design and quality functions.
Prepare first part documents work as per ISO standards

Requirements
Required:
Experience with solid modeling and generation of detailed drawings using SolidWorks
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
Preferred:
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment (junior to intermediate level)
Familiar with Visio
CNC router experience (programming)
Comfortable working in both Metric and Imperial environments
Work Conditions
Office setting, Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm
