Design and Development Lead, Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and LearningPrimary Purpose: The Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning (GMCTL) provides professional development opportunities for departments, colleges, instructors, and graduate students in teaching and professional skills. With a strong emphasis on flexible learning, the team offers instructional design and curriculum development support for academic programs and courses, works to create an environment that enables good teaching and learning practices, and supports cross-institutional initiatives within USask campus and with partner organizations like regional colleges. This position provides leadership for a team of instructional designers.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager, Teaching Innovation, and working in partnership with academic leaders and educators, the incumbent will work to identify needs, build relationships, and provide a spectrum of instructional design services to support flexible learning at the University of Saskatchewan and with our partners. Additionally, the role will include supervision of a team of instructional designers and work devising and implementing strategic initiatives at the University of Saskatchewan.Accountabilities:

  • Facilitate flexible course and program development work, in partnership with academic leaders, involving faculty and other stakeholders.
  • Devise and implement responses to university-wide strategic initiatives
  • Conduct on-going assessments of projects to determine the strategic plan required to align with broader university planning efforts.
  • Apply knowledge of, and experience with, flexible program and course design, instructional approaches, and assessment and evaluation.
  • Plan and deliver formal and informal faculty professional development and courses related to flexible learning.
  • Supervise a team of instructional designers and assistants, contributing to Instructional design as needed.
  • Provide program management and tracking of MOUs and Statements of Work with academic leads.
  • Determine the strategy for resource development that support educators in improving learning in their online courses.
  • Research and keep informed regarding innovations, trends, and professional development opportunities related to design and development of flexible learning.
  • Design and develop a communication plan and promotional strategies to highlight the support provided by the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning. This work should encompass social media posts, website design and maintenance, email communications, posters, visual assets and newsletters.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate degree required with a minimum of 10 years\' experience in Education or Instructional Design or a combination of post-secondary education and experience will also be considered.Experience: Demonstrated capacity to support course design, professional learning, and staff and faculty development in higher education. Demonstrated understanding of learner-centered instructional design processes, and assessment design is essential. Experience with leading educational initiatives in an asset.Skills:
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, and administrators in higher education to develop and achieve shared goals and manage many competing goals.
  • Proven initiative, organizational skills, and ability to lead implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent ability to grow a team, including the capacity to prioritize, proactively position the team for success, and work with others to address issues effectively as they arise.
  • Ability to work comfortably with senior administrators, faculty members and academic staff to interpret department/college/institutional academic goals and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and a high level of optimism, energy, and empathy.
  • Capacity to build and leverage relationships to build and maintain a strong team that others are excited to work with.
  • Proficient in contemporary instructional design methods, with a strong emphasis on effectively implementing Universal Design for Learning principles. Excellent understanding of flexible learning, including in online, hybrid and blended modes.
  • Proficient in project management, encompassing the ability to lead complex projects with teams from multiple units and meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Desire to work individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
