Job Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, this role assists MEC in reaching its short- and long-term objectives by managing and coordinating staff in providing information, advice and specialty services to MEC Members, potential new Members and other staff. Through individual and team actions, the Department Manager directs outstanding service to Members and other staff and ensures that the presentation of MEC stores meets or exceeds organizational standards. Leads communications and service initiatives within their area of responsibility (AOR), between store teams, and across the store.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • KPI: Supports frontline team in understanding store KPIs and providing them with updates on how the business is performing. Managing expenditures in line with annual budgets to support the ongoing financial health of MEC.
  • Loss prevention: Supports and maintains systems in place to protect MEC assets against theft, damage and abuse according to MEC standard. Ensures MEC asset losses are minimized, and staff have an understanding of the sense of urgency around actions to be taken.
  • Employee Training: Supports employee training and onboarding by leading training sessions, providing in the moment coaching, PKs and field courses for frontline staff to enhance their product knowledge and Member service skills.
  • Performance Management: Manages frontline staff performance by coordinating work, setting performance expectations and holding staff accountable, ensuring they follow company\xe2\x80\x99s SOPs, providing an ongoing feedback and coaching, addressing performance issues. Conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Morale and engagement: Responsible for conducting regular check-ins with frontline team to maintain open communication and to gather feedback on staff satisfaction. Assists General Manager in store fireside chat meetings and daily huddles.
  • Recruitment: Supports recruitment of floor staff with the skills, by screening candidates and conducting interviews.
  • Visual Merchandising: Ensures that merchandise for sale in assigned area of the store is displayed according to established systems and process standards, to ensure consistency in the delivery of an outstanding Member shopping experience, which in turn supports the achievement of MEC\xe2\x80\x99s financial goals. Collaborates with the Merchandising team to ensure that suitable quantities of product are requested to promote demand according to the season.
  • Health and Safety: Supports General Manager in ensuring that all Health and Safety standards are met in the store.
  • Scheduling: Assists the leadership team in creating store schedules that match the needs of the business.
  • Culture and Values: Promotes MEC culture, vision and purpose amongst all staff within store.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in managing ambiguity, effective communication, managing conflict, and driving results in a retail setting.
  • Open availability 7 days a week.
  • Well organized and strong in multi-tasking
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds from floor to a waist.

The anticipated base salary range of this role is $47,200 to $70,000 annually. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, store location, and internal equity. This role is eligible for a variable annual incentive plan.
