The Philosophy Department is a medium size department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with an active and enthusiastic faculty supported by 4 permanent staff. We have a very successful undergraduate program that has been growing at a steady pace. Our office team prides itself for being friendly, helpful, and highly efficient.
About the Role
Provides administrative assistance to the Manager, Academic and Administrative Services. Performs reception, secretarial, and clerical duties for the Philosophy Department and its Undergraduate program. Responds to requests for information regarding undergraduate program admission and requirements, registration, course offerings, course adds/swaps, and exams. Maintains and processes a variety of forms and confidential documents, requests, and course outlines; and maintains accurate database and spreadsheet records. Provides assistance with expense claims and other financial forms, and serves as back-up for other positions in the department.
Qualifications
High school graduation and general courses or training of moderate duration (one semester or equivalent) including courses or training in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, and courses in office procedures. 2 years of related experience.

  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Good keyboarding skills with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use web updating applications (CQ5, AEM) to post/update information on the department's website.
