We are seeking a personable, empathetic and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our established dental practice. We focus on Airway Centred Dentistry offering orthodontics and orthopedics for adults and children and are virtually unique in the adult skeletal expansion space. Monday to Thursday 8-5, Friday 8-3 - no evenings or Saturdays.
The ideal candidate will support patients during clinical procedures, manage setups to optimize dentist's ability to deliver care, and ensure the smooth operation of daily dental office activities. This role requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, rigorous infection control protocols, and proficiency with dental radiology and photography. The Dental Assistant will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control standards.
Responsibilities
Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including orthodontic/orthopedic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments
Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available
Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging tools
Record patient vital signs and medical history accurately in electronic health records (EHR) using Abelsoft and MaxAssist.
Maintain strict infection control practices using aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination
Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions
Manage medical documentation and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
Support front desk duties as a dental receptionist when needed, including scheduling appointments and managing medical records
Assist with chairside procedures utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort
Ensure the operatory is prepared for each appointment by organizing materials and verifying equipment functionality
Skills
Proficiency with Computers and Abelsoft dental software
Experience with X-ray procedures and iTero digital scanners, orthodontic photography, radiographic imaging - intra-oral, Panorex & lateral Ceph
CAD-CAM using Glidewell IO (or willingness to learn)
Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques
Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various dental treatments including aligner orthodontics, adult & paedo orthopedics, laser tongue tie releases, crown & bridge, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards to ensure patient privacy and data security
Strong understanding of medical terminology related to dentistry and general healthcare practices
Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively and collaborate with team members
Prior experience in a dental clinic setting is PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED; WE ARE WILLING TO TRAIN THE RIGHT CANDIDATE
