The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and field-oriented Demolition Coordinator to play a crucial role in the successful execution of Diavik's decommissioning and demolition scopes. This hands-on position will focus on monitoring and tracking on-site progress, identifying coordination needs, and ensuring our support as the Owner is timely and effective.

Rio Tinto is committed to the safety and well-being of all employees, prioritizing safe work practices and providing the necessary resources and tools. Furthermore, the scale of our operations provides significant opportunities for professional development and career growth within the company.

About the Role

As the Demolition Coordinator, you will spend the majority of your time in the field, actively monitoring the demolition contractor's progress, as well as overseeing and coordinating the work of Diavik employees and other contractors involved in decommissioning activities. You'll verify adherence to plans and document activities across all these groups. You'll be crucial in identifying upcoming coordination requirements, such as access needs, utility disconnections, or material handling and logistics, and communicating these proactively to the relevant teams. Your role will be to ensure the demolition contractor, Diavik employees, and other site teams have the necessary support and to maintain schedule and efficiency. Daily reporting on progress is an important aspect of the role and will formally be included in the project records.

This position requires strong observational skills, excellent communication and organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Reporting to the Demolition Lead, based at the Lac de Gras Diavik Mine site, the role follows a 2-weeks-on / 2-weeks-off rotational schedule.

The main responsibilities will be:

Spending at least 70% of time in the field monitoring and tracking the demolition contractor's daily progress against schedules and plans, and overseeing/coordinating the activities of Diavik employees and other contracted teams on site. Participating in site safety programs and promoting a safety-first culture in the field. Observing and reporting on adherence to safety protocols, project plans, and quality standards by the demolition contractor, Diavik employees, and other on-site contractors. Assisting with the collection of data and information for progress reports, safety records, and quality control documentation. Documenting field activities, including progress photos, daily logs, and observations of site conditions. Proactively looking ahead in the demolition schedule to identify upcoming coordination requirements or potential roadblocks for the demolition contractor and other site teams. Communicating identified coordination needs (e.g., access, permits, utility outages, waste stream management, material handling) to the Demolition Lead and relevant Diavik departments in a timely manner. Assisting in facilitating effective communication between the demolition contractor, Diavik project teams, and other on-site contractors, particularly regarding on-site logistics and interfaces. Verifying all on-site work against reported progress for accurate payment verification purposes. Identifying and reporting any deviations from project drawings, specifications, or contractual requirements observed in the field. Supporting the Demolition Lead in resolving on-site technical and operational issues as they arise. Contributing to the development of lessons learned from field observations for future closure projects.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

A minimum of 3 years of field-based experience in construction or demolition projects, with a strong understanding of site operations and progress monitoring. A diploma or certificate in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field. Equivalent relevant field experience will also be considered. Demonstrated ability to effectively monitor and track project progress in a field environment. Strong observational skills and attention to detail for accurate reporting and documentation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively interacting with various contractors and internal teams on site. A proactive approach to identifying potential coordination issues and communicating them efficiently. A sound understanding of basic project schedules and the ability to interpret construction/demolition plans. A proactive and unwavering commitment to safety, with a strong understanding of hazard identification and safe work practices in the field. Proficiency in using standard computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word) and the ability to learn and utilize project reporting systems for field updates. Experience working in a remote site environment, particularly fly-in/fly-out operations, is considered an asset. Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, along with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the North, are considered assets.

Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the DDMI Participation Agreement Groups and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Territories. Candidates wishing to receive priority consideration should clearly identify their status on their online job application and resume.

Where You Will Be Working

Located in the Northwest Territories of Canada, the Diavik Diamond Mine is approaching its active closure phase. As the mine progresses through responsible closure, accommodations and site facilities will be in a state of change and team members will need to be flexible and resourceful in this evolving environment.
