Reporting to the Director, Diversity and Inclusion this role will lead our Center of Excellence efforts in fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Scouts Canada. This role is pivotal in developing and implementing strategies and change initiatives to promote a welcoming and authentically inclusive environment \xe2\x80\x93 with an understanding of both best practices and pitfalls in Diversity and Inclusion efforts for organizations. This role will be remote from your home office, and the candidate can be located anywhere in Canada.

Responsibilities:

  • Culture Change + Strategy Development: Co-Developing Inclusion principles and Embedding Inclusion values collaboratively across organizational goals and practices are critical to this role.
  • Training and Education: Design and deliver training programs to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of diversity and inclusion among staff and stakeholders.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with key stakeholders to review and implement inclusive policies, practices, and procedures that support diversity and equity within the organization.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Establish metrics to assess the effectiveness of DEI initiatives, regularly measuring and reporting on progress to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Recruitment and Retention: Partner with HR and hiring managers to create inclusive staff and volunteer recruitment strategies, ensuring diversity in candidate pools and implementing retention strategies for underrepresented groups.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with external communities and organizations to build partnerships and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies Required:

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive range of backgrounds and perspectives that have shaped a candidate\xe2\x80\x99s qualifications and skills. This can include experience, education, or a combination of these \xe2\x80\x93 but is certainly not limited by them.
  • 5+ years of experience in volunteer management, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, or reform-related roles. At least 3 years of direct management or supervisory role.
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Considered as an asset: Degree or Certification in Community Health, Social Sciences, Nonprofit Management, Youth Development, or related field - along with relevant experience in advocacy, community development, or a related area. Other relevant degrees and certifications from Historically Black Colleges, Tribal Colleges and Universities, or other institutions are welcomed.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships based on trust, respect, and integrity.
  • DEI Expertise: Proven experience in developing and implementing DEI strategies, preferably within a corporate or organizational setting. In-depth knowledge and understanding of Diversity and Inclusion best practices and Blunders, and concepts including tokenism, systemic barriers. A sensitivity to national and international cultural differences and protocols.
  • Understanding of Equity and Inclusion: Strong understanding of equity, inclusion, and social justice issues, along with the ability to apply these principles
  • Training and Facilitation: Experience in designing and delivering DEI-related training and educational programs.
  • Policy and Program Development: Familiarity with developing and implementing inclusive policies and programs that drive change and foster an inclusive culture.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to use data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of DEI initiatives and make informed decisions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate DEI strategies, engage stakeholders, and advocate for inclusive practices.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work non-traditional hours (as needed) to engage with communities and occasionally travel.
